REPORT: Alonso has secret four-year deal to join Ferrari F1

F1 ace Fernando Alonso has reportedly signed a secret, four-year deal to drive for Ferrari starting in 2011. The Spanish driver first made waves in F1 while driving for Renault, during which time he became the the youngest ever Drivers' Champion and added a second title at the expense of F1 legend Michael Schumacher. After a disappointing though lucrative season in 2007 with McLaren, Alonso returned to Renault in 2008 and recently signed a two-year extension through 2010. Once that contract expires, the rumored secret four-year deal with Ferrari will begin. We're told that both Alonso and Ferrari have a number of out clauses in case things go awry, though the unconfirmed deal means that at least one of Ferraris current drivers, Kimi Raikkonen or Felipe Massa, won't be wearing red come 2011. In fact, Alonso could join the team even earlier if Raikkonen performs as poorly in 2009 as he did last year.

It never ceases to amaze me that people still believe reports by the Gazzetta. The Guardian should've known better.

Must not be much of a secret.

I hope this is not true. I cant stand Alonso. Renault is the best fit for him. Him and Flavio seem to understand each other very well.

I like Raikonnen and Massa, pretty much equally after last season and the drama of the past season. However I also think Alonso is THE best driver on the grid who doesn't make silly mistakes (or maybe I just don't remember them :P), and had he been at Ferrari he would very likely have been champion.
I hope Massa doesn't mind being test driver :(...

KIMIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!
I really couldn't care less if you think Hamilton is better, for me the only reason I watch Formula 1 anymore is to see Kimi race. Once he is gone, unless Senna blossoms I am done with it.

Same here. Can't wait to see how will the cars look with the big new changes for next season and how will the drivers cope with them.

You must have had an awful season this year then, 'cause he really sucked.

Does anyone watch F1 anymore for entertainment. I thought it was something just to put insomniacs to sleep with.

Exactly. Who cares. F1 won't be around by 2011.
I've followed F1 since the mid 80s. Sadly, 2008 will be the last time I bother with it. The FIA have standardized it so much that watching NASCAR is actually/probably more exciting. SAD.

I LOL'd at the picture because its so true.

Honestly, y'all need to stop reporting on F1. You still haven't even acknowledged the fact the Honda/Slim story was horribly wrong and now you start reporting on more rumor tripe. I guess sensation sells.

Sad.
Alonso is amazingly talented, but his ego and immaturity reminds me of Kobe Bryant before he finally woke up (a lot nicer than saying that I want to kick Alonso's teeth in for his childish behavior). For Ferrari's sake, let hope Alonso grows up. Soon. Otherwise, WalMart sells appropriate pacifiers.

@ Mobius - You're right. And Ferrari know that, had Alonso been in scarlet, THEY and he would be champions.
@ kelah666 - you're kidding? Right?
