Mobileyes live traffic for the iPhone
The coding wizards at 3rd Dimension, Inc. have released an iPhone app that provides a live video stream of traffic in selected areas, allowing commuters to view conditions before they make the trek to and from work.Currently, the application is only available for Detroit, Harford, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Knoxville, LA, New York and Washington D.C., but more cities will be added in the future.
The application is a free download through the iTunes store (search for "traffic" and you'll see the available cities), and after checking out the New York feeds, we're astounded at how many traffic cameras are available in the Big Apple.

Great, think of all the idiots who can watch themselves get in an accident because they were playing with their iphone and not watching the road.

I patiently await for someone to recreate the big heist scene from the "Italian Job" with this app.

Because Knoxville certainly has its lion's share of congesting traffic.

Granted this is the first iPhone app that does it, but these cameras are available all over the web.
Delaware has quite a few of them online (including ones that pan and scan to show you more than just a static angle), broken down by county and then by intersection. I bet a lot of other state DOT sites have something similar.

I only tried the LA app and it isn't a video stream. It just rotates between 2 snapshots.

The New York traffic cameras never work. I've had this program for a few weeks already and the only camera I ever got to work was the one on Columbus Circle and one near the Throgs Neck Bridge. The ones on the Cross Bronx Expressway and I-95 don't work at all.

Great new app. They just keep getting better and more mature. I've written about another slick native app for the iPhone, Flixster's Movies on my blog at http://johnkendrick.wordpress.com

The Los Angeles one only shows freeways. Useless during rush hour, when smart people take the streets.
Is there ever a day when the 405 at the 10 isn't red on Google Maps during rush hour?
