We were completely taken with the BMW M1 Hommage concept car that was introduced at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este earlier this year. It's blend of modern and retro design is a fitting tribute to the original M1 road car, and we'd have no objection to BMW putting a production version on the road. There were only a handful of photos available when the car was officially introduced, but since then BMW has released several more for us to drool over including some of the original design sketches. We felt no need to keep them to ourselves and have put them in a high resolution gallery below for your viewing pleasure.

Do Not Like!

That's good (and funny). Actually it looks like Comp Cams' Thumpr logo on wheels!
Vintage @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:50PM
Does this look like a render to anybody else? I've yet to see pics of it with people near it, or at an autoshow.... is this thing all just rendered using Alias or Hypershot or something?

I guess you didn't take a look at pic 47 out of 47 then. Also, they had a video of this thing with people walking around it and there was an M1 sitting next to it for comparision. My God, will people please think or at least do a little research before they post stupid comments like "why are there two BMW logo's on the back". If you were a stupid chick then it would be ok, but if you are reading Autoblog then it is assumed that you should know a thing or two about automobiles. And if you don't, that's ok too... just refrain from posting like you do know something. Or at least spare us the comments that expose your ignorance. Sheez.

"Or at least spare us the comments that expose your ignorance. Sheez."
What, like "If you were a stupid chick then it would be ok?"
My wife probably knows 11111eleventybillion1100x more than you do about cars.

Tone down some of the excessive detailing, give it some new rims, a stylish interior, drop in the M3 V8 and go R8 hunting. Sounds pretty easy to me.
They even have the V10 to go toe-to-toe with the RS8.
KeatMP @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:05AM
Looks like that thing came out of the 80s.....and thats not a good thing.
azzo45 @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:33AM
The 80's version looked MUCH better. This is a bad re-work
Jorge @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:06AM
The car looks good, but I would change the wheels they look ugly.
KeatMP @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:09AM
It has 2 BMW emblems on the back. WHY???
ML @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:12AM
Because the original concept car had two emblems on the back.
el dorko @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:23AM
apparently you've never seen an M1
azzo45 @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:09AM
WTF!!! That thing looks like it got PIMPED on MTV. Hey BMW... instead of some bad body kits & other design no-no's... How about just tastefully UPDATING the M1 like Ford did with the GT40???
Menice @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:09AM
those two emblems on the back gotta go.
interesting, i do like it....it could grow on me.
would love it more if it were mine.
ahaha i just got the bugs bunny thing!
tankd0g @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:11AM
Well, the original looked like a rejected Star Wars prop design, so I guess any homage to it has to be equally as ugly.
tankd0g @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:14AM
What they need to build is something that ties into their F1 car...while they are still doing well.
ML @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:17AM
As a concept car design, I like it. It's a bold take on the original. It captures the 'flavor' of the original car, upgrading it to look more modern. Actually it would make a tough looking Batmobile, painted flat-black of course.
Stephen Lang @ Jul 23rd 2008 12:43PM
My thoughts exactly- I love it as a concept car and styling exercise. It's obviously not something that is meant to go into production as is (i.e. a prototype).
I do think it has more of a 70's mod look to it, than 80's. It makes me want to go listen to my old solid state Harmon Kardon stereo with lighted dials.
IMF @ Jul 23rd 2008 11:24AM
I personally thing it looks gorgeous and different. Only problem is the color and the wheels.
