We were completely taken with the BMW M1 Hommage concept car that was introduced at the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este earlier this year. It's blend of modern and retro design is a fitting tribute to the original M1 road car, and we'd have no objection to BMW putting a production version on the road. There were only a handful of photos available when the car was officially introduced, but since then BMW has released several more for us to drool over including some of the original design sketches. We felt no need to keep them to ourselves and have put them in a high resolution gallery below for your viewing pleasure.

Maybe it's just me, but the M1 looks like BMW contracted with the stylists over at HOT WHEELS to design what they think is a BMW sports car. This does not look like it came from the BMW design studios.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - to me, this just looks horrendous. Just. Amazingly. Bad.

Am I the only one chuckling at these pictures ? Clearly this is a shell on top of four wheels (none of which are able to steer) and they've staged it on roads like it's being driven... Only the wheels are not even spinning, permanently stuck in an eternal and immobile straight trajectory... They could have at the very least given the wheels some motion blur, it looks so goofy and fake ! No wonder people are thinking it's a render... :)

I loved the original M1 but if that's bmw's answer to Audi's R8 - I hope it never sees the light of day. Huge Miss!

The car looks good, but I would change the wheels they look ugly.

That's good (and funny). Actually it looks like Comp Cams' Thumpr logo on wheels!

"Or at least spare us the comments that expose your ignorance. Sheez."

What, like "If you were a stupid chick then it would be ok?"

My wife probably knows 11111eleventybillion1100x more than you do about cars.

Does this look like a render to anybody else? I've yet to see pics of it with people near it, or at an autoshow.... is this thing all just rendered using Alias or Hypershot or something?

Tone down some of the excessive detailing, give it some new rims, a stylish interior, drop in the M3 V8 and go R8 hunting. Sounds pretty easy to me.

They even have the V10 to go toe-to-toe with the RS8.

I like it it looks very good they should make it i would buy one. as for the rims i like them too cause they look like back to the Future rims.

Good Job BMW... Now hurry up and make it !!!
