VIDEO: Dodge Challenger fan commercial rates highly

The quintessential car chase may have been immortalized in movies like The French Connection and Bullitt, but there have been dozens of chase flicks with everything from Pontiac Trans Ams to Dodge Challengers as the star. The 1971 movie Vanishing Point served as a classic for Mopar faithful, as the film centers around a troubled car delivery guy trying to get a supercharged 1970 Challenger from Colorado to San Fransisco in 15 hours while the fuzz is on his tail.
With an all-new Challenger on the horizon, one fan took the time to make a video tribute to the muscle car vs. police movie, and the early reviews are positive. The amateur movie maker took clips from the original movie and spliced in Chrysler b-roll of the 2008 SRT Challenger for a very well produced faux promo. We were especially impressed with the effects employed to superimpose clips of the new Challenger in action over the old movie clips. Hit the jump to watch the one-minute short, and if you haven't seen the original movie, we've also embedded the original theatrical trailer for Vanishing Point. Thanks for the tip, Mitch!

Its a play on the movie "Vanishing Point", a famous car chase flick featuring a white 1970 Challenger R/T. If you don't know the movie your either, not a "car guy", or just too young to have seen it.

Guys, I think he's joking. Hence the "ROFL" at the end...

And there goes the Challenger, being chased by the blue, blue meanies on wheels. The vicious traffic squad cars are after our lone driver, the last American hero, the electric centaur, the, the demi-god, the super driver of the golden west! Two nasty Nazi cars are close behind the beautiful lone driver. The police numbers are gettin' closer, closer, closer to our soul hero, in his soul mobile, yeah baby! They about to strike. They gonna get him. Smash him. Rape... the last beautiful free soul on this planet.

actually this line is better:
This radio station was named Kowalski, in honour of the last American heroes to whom speed means freedom of the soul. The question is not when you ‘ll stop, but who is gonna stop them
I actually have the flick on DVD at home. I had to hunt for this thing back in the day.

HA! Also that whole phrase was used by G'n'R in one of their Use Your Illusion albums... I forget the exact song tho. I listened to that so much, I still remember it nearly word for word. Never had a clue where it came from til now.

Saying "supercharged" challenger makes it sound like the car was supercharged, and it was not.

In the movie it is, or is supposed to be.
Jason 9:07PM (3/26/2008)
I don't think so....
It's just a plain 'ol Hemi Challenger. If someone can prove me wrong... I'll kiss your feet. haha

From the script
"Oh, good. Stay with it. Watch for a white Challenger, licence plates initial OA-5599.
Colorado plates. Last seen heading for Dunphy on US 40 at cruising speed.
We have reason to believe it's supercharged, so maintain double alert till you spot it.
Then call in for instructions. Over and out"
Fromthe DVD description
"A classic among "car chase" movies. James Kowalski (Barry Newman) works for a car delivery service and agrees to motor a supercharged 1970 Dodge Challenger from Colorado to San Francisco. For grins and giggles, he bets that he can deposit the car in California in less than 15 hours. So begins an uproarious high-speed adventure that includes confrontations with a blind DJ, gay hitchhikers, a naked biker chick and lots of cops."
Was it actaully supercharged? No.. was I claiming it was? No.
It is "supposed to be"
Pucker up.

Jason, the moview cars weren't even HEMI equipped; that would've been way too expensive. But it's hollywood and they can say anything they want.
Was Brian O'Conner's green Eclipse really equipped with naaaawsss and do the 1/4 mile in 10s while the floorboard was falling off?
Jason 12:52AM (3/27/2008)
Where did you find that movie description? All of them I am finding are worded exactly like that....minus the supercharger part. According to Wikipedia:
"Despite the speculation of the police at one point in the film, the car was not supercharged or turbocharged, but naturally aspirated with the single quad (4 barrel) 440/375 horse engine. "

Every car guy should watch Vanishing Point.

The new Challenger can be had in white, just like the Challenger in Vanishing Point.
Perhaps that's one film Hollywood should remake.
