Shelby releases Super Snake GT500 details

Amy Boylan, President of Shelby Automobiles, Inc., has released the first official details on her company's latest Mustang iteration, the Super Snake GT500. First, you'll need a Shelby GT 500, the base price of which is $40,930 according to Ford. Now, you're probably going to want to option that up, and we're betting no dealer will let you out the door without paying a significant mark up. On top of that, turning your GT500 into a Super Snake will cost at least an additional $28,000.
Sure, that price could buy you a second Mustang, but instead your Super Snake will be boasting 600 horsepower. You can order up to a 725-horsepower Super Snake as well, but the cost will be significantly more and you can kiss that factory warranty goodbye if you go all the way. In addition to the Shelby Supercharger that produces the extra ponies, you'll also get a cold air intake, Shelby/Baer 6-piston caliper brakes, a Shelby short throw shifter, an Eibach coil-over suspension, sway bars, and a Borla cat-back exhaust. Unfortunately, the Super Snake doesn't address the Mustang's weight problem, instead trying to reign it in with a beefier suspension, more power and better stoppers.
More info and the complete specs are after the jump.

No Mustang special edition would be complete without exterior adornments to let everyone know, so the Super Snake gets a new hood, carbon fiber front spliter, cf mirror covers and rocker panels, as well as a brake duct kit for the front and rear. Then there's the badging on the rear deck lid, front grille and front fenders, combined with the fat Super Snake striping bisecting the car lengthwise. Your Super Snake will also be rolling on 20-inch Shelby Alcoa wheels wearing Pirelli P-Zeros.
So, if the fates are on your side, a Super Snake will cost you $68,930 base. You should figure on that not happening, however, and be ready to raid an extra college fund if necessary.

thanks for the clarity. i would hate to see these things destroy the shape of the car

There must be something about Mustangs and 911's that makes people think you need 15 versions of essentially the same car. Looks cool though, but not at $80k. You could get a better car than any Mustang for that kind of dough.

I own a Mustang GT in SE Michigan. I find the traction control does it's job in most conditions. However, regardless, the car doesn't do too well in the snow.

A little pricey. Correct me if I am wrong, but are there any other cars (except the Z06) that come from the FACTORY with this much power and cost this much? Heck, it has as much power as the Viper and costs a hell of a lot less.
Needs to lose weight but it is still a cool car. Heck, even a stock GT turns heads...

Some people do not like Vette's(I happen to like them a lot). I can't believe people have not realized that everyone has their likes/dislikes about things and always have to bash people for it. But I'm more into the musclecar, not a sports car so I'd take a Mustang.
Jay 8:27PM (6/07/2007)
I'd rather be an old guy in a muscle car than an old guy in a sportscar; besides, the GT500 looks better than the Z06 IMHO...These are two reasons are why I bought a Shelby GT500.

I like the idea of being able to get the car with a warranty if even with just the 600hp model. If I'm going to spend $68k on a car, its nice to know its covered for at least 3 years.

if any of you idiots out there think that a z06 is anywhere near as bad as the supersnake...you need to get that vibrator out your butt. how bout this, supersnake and a new z06 are close in the price catagory. tell me this they pump out thousands of those pieces every year were as a limited amount of the supersnake. sell each of them in 25 years and see whose got the better collectors car.
