VIDEO: Product whore Tony Hawk shilling Jeeps and Sirius
If there's one thing we can say about Tony Hawk with absolute certainty, it's that he loves capitalism. According to Wikipedia, he's starred in commercials for Apple Computer, Burger King, Bagel Bites, Got Milk?, GoSnacks, The Colorado Tourism Board, and Domino's Pizza. If we knew how to edit a Wikipedia entry, we'd add Jeep and Sirius Satellite Radio to that list. Here the Birdman can be seen doing a rail slide with a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, no doubt made possible by the Unlimited's extra-long wheelbase. It's pretty funny and has that oh-so-popular viral video feel, but if we see Tony Hawk on either YouTube or the boob tube one more time pimping somebody else's products, well let's just say we can't be held accountable for our actions.
There's two more DaimlerChrysler commercials after the jump for the same Sirius Satellite Radio deal if you're interested.

Apparently, THE only word that does not appear in dictionaries used by ad agencies is OVEREXPOSURE. Brett Farve is almost as bad as Tony Hawk. I tune out most celebrity-endorsed products. After Pepsi paid Michael Jackson over a million dollars to appear in a commercial (when it was reasonably well known the guy doesn't drink any cola drinks), I started to tune out any and all celebrities.

I edited the wikipedia page for you.

Of course he's an endorsement whore, I'd do the same thing. After all skateboarding for a living gets kind of hard on the knees after a while doesn't it. Tony would skate until he bled, and kept on skating, so I don't blame him for his product endorsements at all
As for the other blogger on here indicating he doesn't pay attention to celebrities at all..Bravo! Now if the rest of the population could get a clue, that these people are some of the most tasteless, mean-spirited, self centered, dysfunctional idiots on the planet we'd all be a lot better off. Far too much attention is paid to what people in the entertainment industry are doing. Who gives a rat's ass? They are not doing anything to help make the world a better place. And the eway many of the act today is beyond excusable (e.g. Russell Crowe)
And I might add it's quite disgusting of the Autoblog editor/journalist to be so proud of a headline like that, considering how hard that other skating/ murderer celebrity (Mark "Gator" Rogowski) from the same area that Tony Hawks came from, fell. He ended up living the life of a drug addict skateboarding celebrity, then stabbed some woman in the desert to death and was condemned in shackles to prison. So considering losers like that in the industry, I think Tony should be praised and remembered as a good example, not vilified with a mean news headline such as this one.
What's the matter AutoBlog? Jealous???
Obviously the people who work at Autoblog are jealous

Gator Rogowski beat a girl to half to death in his apartment, then sexually assaulted her as she lay dying. Close though.
Christian Hosoi was a better vert skater than Hawk and projected a way cooler image. Hell, liking Tony Hawk in the late '80's was like admitting to being a Springsteen fan. But Hosoi (and many others) fell into drugs and crime, while Hawk continued to bust his ass promoting and progressing the sport. The sport is where it is largely thanks to Tony Hawk's efforts.
Now that he's reaching his late '30's and can no longer compete, he's earned the right to cash in a little on the brand that he's built his name into. Same goes for Dave Mirra and Mat Hoffman.
So go to hell with your "product whore" comment. Besides, don't tell me you haven't c&p'd a press release into a blog post in your day.

Yep, sure sounds like sour grapes to me. If you were Tony Hawk, you'd whore yourself out too. Stop trying to act like you'd do otherwise.

Tony Hawk is a whore...products and otherwise. And his games suck.
Scott Johnson @ Nov 11th 2006 12:06AM
Jeep and Sirius were all over the place in the last Tony Hawk video game. Along with a ton of other product placement. The development cost of those games is probably paid for by the product placement alone. Actual unit sales are just pure profit.
Dana @ Nov 11th 2006 1:06AM
Tony Hawk is no more of a "product whore" than any other successful professional athlete. As mr said, he did a great deal to advance the sport of skateboarding. He deserves every cent that he has earned.

What degree qualifies you to do what he does?

I am sure that none of you reach the age of usefullness in the workplace and found it a lot easier to take an endorsement to prepare for retirement. We are not talking about some 12-16 year old. Tony Hawk is 'aging' and with that notion comes retirement. Power to him for not having to put up with the daily BS our workplace throws around.

Skateboarding isn't a crime, but it sure is BORING.
