RR of the Day: Daily driven track-tuned EVO MR
UPDATE: Added link to video

For some reason, we've yet to feature either a Subaru WRX (STi or otherwise) or Mitsubishi EVO as a RR of the Day. We'll remedy that omission today by featuring the 2005 Mitsubishi EVO MR of Flickr member eat_more_chicken. He says the MR is tuned for the track but driven daily, which is just what we like to hear. The car's mods are too numerous to list here (check them out after the jump), but rest assured the owner has covered everything including the intake/exhaust, fuel system, cams, turbo system, suspension, brakes and wheels. The car reportedly now makes 301whp/287wtq on 91 octane and 320whp/310wtq on 100 octane when it's being thrashed on the track. We know it gets thrashed because eat_more_chicken left us a video to watch of the car being driven at Thunderhill Raceway near Willows, California. Check out the list of cars that count as nothing more than slow moving traffic when sharing the track with this car and its owner: various SPEC Miatas, a Lotus Elise, C5 Corvette and Viper GTS.
BTW: We'd just like to encourage everyone to submit their ride to our Flickr photo pool if you haven't done so already. We've gotten great submissions so far, but in order to keep coming at you with a ride a day, we need more. Remember, every car is eligible so submit yours and tell us why it's a great ride. Follow the jump for instructions on how to submit your ride.

How to submit to RR of the Day:
Create a Flickr account if you don't already have one. Search for and join the group called 'Autoblog RR of the Day'. Upload up to three photos of your ride to your own account at a size no larger than 450 pixels wide if possible and include as much information about it and yourself as possible. Even if your ride is sweet, it will not be chosen if there's not a lot of info accompanying it. Click on each photo and just above the picture it will say "Send to group". Click that and select the Autoblog group. You're done, that's it!

I have a question, why aren't the rear seats removed? It's not like they are usable with the roll cage in.

Evo's look weird when they're not covered in dust, dirt & mud!

Sometimes hate the styling of the Evo but every now and then fall in love with it. Nice ride!

It's unfortunate that anyone buys anything from Vishnu...

You know, having rear seats and a roll cage make no sense. Are these cars durable? Can they take a hit and keep rolling? Remember, this is not a box-on-frame design, it's unibody.

"5. Sometimes hate the styling of the Evo but every now and then fall in love with it. Nice ride!"
Thats kinda how I feel. I think I love the way they look from the front but I hate the way they look from the rear.
Awesome car though!

What the hell are you talking about Stoneman? I don't know where to begin to start answering your questions because they don't make any sense.
"You know, having rear seats and a roll cage make no sense"
I'm guessing you are just saying that regarding this application. I don't know, behind the driver doesn't look too bad once you get in. Maybe they have a dog that rides back there.
"Are these cars durable? Can they take a hit and keep rolling? Remember, this is not a box-on-frame design, it's unibody."
Do you think he wants to enter a demolition derby or something? I've seen these things along with subies jump 3ft in the air repeatedly without problems, is that considered durable? What kind of "hit" are you talking about? What the hell is the difference if it is unibody versus body on frame? There still are points strong enough to mount an effective cage to.
Geesh, this spammer can't even write a simple comment that makes any sense. I wouldn't dare try to figure out his website.

The car doesn't need to be smog tested until it is 5 years old ;)
Anyways, the vid got my heart pumping! And the car will probably get my vote, as that is the spirit of the site... can't wait for a raise and the 2008 evo x :)

Hey all,
First, thank you Autoblog for the RR of the day!
Second, answers to a couple comment questions:
1. The rear seats are in because the car looks much cleaner with them in then exposed metal, wires and sound deadening that is exposed when the rear seats are out. They can come out/ put back in within 15mins. I take the rear seats out at the track and put my tools and extra tires/wheels back there. And.. NO LIVING THING ever gets put back there. At some point I might put a enemy back there for a couple laps though. ;)
2. The one Vishnu part was bought used. ;)
Thanks everyone else for the comments!

This guy gets my vote. He knows how mod his car, drive it, and take a nearly professional grade video (in widescreen no less!).
I wonder if the guys driving the Corvette and Viper were driving at full tilt because if so, they were clearly holding this guy back.
Kudos!

In the video, why does every other driver signals just before they get passed? Is this some track procedure you should do just before being left behind? A Miata even put the hazard lights on!
- Thanks and keep that EVO fast!
