One of the rarest and most sought after pair of sneakers is getting a second lease on life. Nike announced that it’s relaunching
the Air Jordan IV Motorsport, a sneaker inspired by the former
Michael Jordan Motorsports Superbike team. The white, black, and blue color scheme was inspired by Jordan’s Suzuki sportbikes, in turn inspired by the colors of the North Carolina Tar Heels. The original Air Jordan IV Motorsport debuted in 2006 to
commemorate the team’s fourth anniversary.
According to Nike, the shoes feature a full-grain leather and mesh upper, air cushioning in the heel and forefoot, and a herringbone pattern on the outsole for traction. The only visual difference between the original and the new set is the removal of the
Mars Blackmon logo.
The shoes, which go on sale Saturday, March 5, at 10 a.m. will set back sneaker enthusiasts $190, at least for the lucky few to grab a first-run set. For some people, $190 may seem like a lot to pay for a pay for a pair of shoes. Consider that a bargain compared to the original. A pair went up for sale a back in 2015 with
an asking price of $30,000. Yes, that’s US dollars.
