The Cube is out because it’s too small. The Tiida is out because it’s too JDM. Now sources within Nissan are saying
that the company plans to begin selling a three-door hatchback in the U.S. as early as next summer and a sub-Sentra
sedan in early 2007. The hatchback will reportedly be based on the Sport Concept shown at the New York Auto Show.
Despite what we reported earlier, it will not be based on
the Tiida. Sources say both new vehicles will be built at Nissan’s plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico and that the sedan
will account for some 60% of sales. Scion is set to sell a total of 160,000 this year, a number we’re sure Nissan is
eager to carve into with these two new models.
