GM will double its China manufacturing in a new $3 billion, yes billion, investment over the next three years the
company announced today. GM will introduce many new vehicles to the Chinese market including the very American
Cadillac, which will be built in Lansing, MI and Shanghai. Interesting figures in the expanded Detroit Free Press story
include China as the world’s third largest car market, even though there are only 16 cars & light trucks per 1,000
Chinese citizens. That’s compared to 700 per 1,000 in the US. Still when you have 1.3 billion people those numbers add
up.
