A team of scientists at MIT has developed a polymer coating for glass made of silica nanoparticles that can
permanently prevent fogging. Introduced at the 230th national meeting of the American Chemical Society, the polymer
coating has already attracted the attention of the military and two automakers. The coating works by preventing the
process of tiny water droplet condensing on glass and scattering light in random patterns, which is how fog forms. The
nanoparticles strongly attract water droplets and flatten them against the surface into a uniform sheet, preventing
light from being scattered. The technology can be applied to many surfaces, including spectacles, which is good news
for all you four-eyed freaks out there like me.
