On the long list of things the sun does for the Earth, powering the solar lights that allow your barbecues to last into the night isn’t the most important. You will, however, feel a real sense of satisfaction the first time you light up your backyard with solar lights.

Solar lights have been around long enough that they’re widely available and quite inexpensive. Walmart has a ton of them, variously outfitted with motion sensors, aimable LED arrays, and flexible lighting modes, and lots of them are on sale right now for up to 72% off, just in time for backyard entertaining season.

These lights are outfitted with dual passive infrared motion sensors that can detect motion up to 40 feet away within a 180-degree field. Three adjustable heads mounted to a slightly larger central array allow you to light up whatever area of the yard you’d like to, while the extra-large tempered glass solar panel on top offers a conversion rate of up to 35%, reducing charging time on the 2,500mAh battery.

If sitting on your deck, perhaps with a drink in hand, adjusting the lights with a simple remote control sounds like a relaxing experience, these are the lights for you. The remote allows you to turn the light on and off and choose between three different modes: always on, off to on when motion detected, and dim to bright when motion detected. The powerful LEDs emit 6,500K light, roughly the same temperature as daylight.

These lights are made of durable ABS plastic and carry an IP65 waterproof rating, meaning they’re both dustproof and protected against “jets of water,” so a thunderstorm isn’t any cause for concern. The fixed mount wall bracket allows you to secure the light in place and then adjust the position of both the panel and the three spotlights as desired.

These compact lights — they’re just 4.7 inches long, 8.5 inches wide, and 8.3 inches tall — can put out a ton of light, 2,500 lumens to be precise. They have a 270-degree motion sensor, remote control, and a 2,200mAh lithium-ion battery that’s designed to last all night long when fully charged.

These lights have a simpler, sleeker profile than the other options: a panel angled up and a light angled down, all in one self-contained package. This cleaner look comes at the cost of adjustability, but they’re undeniably great installed where that’s not an issue, like directly above a door. They also look great installed at regular intervals, like on the posts of a deck or fence.
