Most electric bikes look roughly like a standard bike with a battery strapped on for the ride. There are other form factors however, like pedal-less e-bikes that are really something closer to scooters and other models that look more like dirt bikes than bicycles. Walmart has a great example of the latter on sale right now with a discount that will save you hundreds on a fun, fast way to get around.
The Nexaglide Fat Tire Electric Bike is on sale for $499 at Walmart, 50% off its normal $999 price tag. It’s a bit of overkill for city commuting — not that it can’t handle the ride to your office easily — but this bike really shines on the trail, where it’s got a slew of features that make it great for off-roading.
50% OffAt the heart of this bike is a 500W high-torque brushless motor that can peak at 1,000W, pushing it to speeds up to 20 mph and up slopes up to 35 degrees. That’s steeper than you’ll likely see on a street (save for maybe in San Francisco) but not all that uncommon for rugged mountain trails. The tires are 4 inches thick and do a lot of work absorbing shock from uneven terrain.
A rear shock absorber and front hydraulic fork do the rest, ensuring a comfortable ride that, thanks to the dual mechanical disc brakes and on-bike lights, is also a safe one. It has seven Shimano speeds, three riding modes, and a removable 15.6Ah battery with a range of up to 100 miles in PAS mode, way further than most other e-bikes in this price range.
One shopper wrote that they used this bike along a coastal trail, and “the wide tires maintained good stability.” Additionally, “the rear shock absorbers also worked well on the uneven boardwalk sections.”
“I’ve replaced driving more often with it because it can handle long journeys and hilly roads,” one customer wrote. Another added that the “sturdy and durable frame provides excellent stability,” while a third noted that the “precise gear shifting” helps make for a smoother ride.

The Nexaglide Fat Tire Electric Bike is a premium electric bike available for $500, a decidedly not premium price point in this category. It’s a great first electric bike but equally good for those who’ve stuck to the streets but are ready to take their e-biking off-road.
