Powerful welding tools are not just for professional fabrication shops anymore. Portable welding machines have become more and more popular among DIYers, mechanics, and homeowners who want the ability to repair or fabricate metal without hauling bulky equipment around. For smaller projects such as repairing a lawn mower deck, fixing a trailer bracket, reinforcing a fence, or tackling simple automotive work, portable handheld welders can be an incredibly useful tool to keep in the garage or workshop.
One of our top picks is the Makelift Portable Handheld Welder, which is currently on sale for just $60 at Amazon, down from its usual $120 price. Designed to be lightweight and easy to use, this compact welding machine weighs just 3.3 pounds and supports adjustable current from 20A to 120A through a bright LED display. That adjustable output allows you to dial in the right power level depending on the thickness of the metal you’re working with, no matter if it’s thin sheet metal, brackets, or thicker steel components.
50% OffDespite its small size, this welder includes several features that help improve both performance and usability. It uses advanced IGBT inverter technology, which helps deliver stable current and smooth arc starts while reducing spatter during welding. The unit also supports welding rods between 3/32-inch and 1/8-inch in size, making it a good option for a wide range of repair and fabrication jobs.
A pure copper ground clamp improves conductivity for more stable arcs, while the extended power cord gives you a little more flexibility when working on larger items such as vehicle frames or fencing. To help keep things running safely during longer sessions, the welder also features a 360-degree cooling system along with built-in protection against overheating, overload, and overcurrent.
One reviewer commented, “I bought this to do some small projects at home and in my shop and it’s been solid so far. It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and plugs right into a regular outlet which is super convenient.”
“This handheld welder is compact and convenient for small projects and quick repairs,” said another happy buyer. “It starts smoothly and feels comfortable to hold. The included accessories are useful, and setup is straightforward. It works well for basic welding tasks and home use.”
