Measuring just over two inches tall by one inch wide, the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 is only about the size of a key fob. You can even hide it behind your rearview mirror using the included low-profile adhesive mount. While it might require a creative cable management solution , powering the dash cam is as simple as plugging the enclosed 12V cable into your vehicle’s DC charging socket.
From there, the Garmin Drive app walks you through the rest of the initial setup process. It also serves as a central hub for managing your recorded footage and adjusting camera settings. Contrary to popular belief, a paid subscription is not required, but it is an option for accessing more advanced features like incident detection and cloud storage.
As one of the most well-known brands to make dash cams, Garmin’s tried-and-true software is easily the biggest selling point of its Dash Cam Mini 2 . But it’s no slouch in the hardware department either. For less than $100, you’re getting persistent 140-degree views from the perspective of your windshield at a 1080p resolution with HDR clarity. It also has intuitive voice controls so you don’t have to take your hands off the wheel to save videos or take still photos..
