A portable band saw might not be the first tool you’d buy to start a power tool collection, but it is one of the most useful if your needs have moved beyond simple projects. Plumbers, electricians, and HVAC technicians use them to cut pipe, cable, and other materials on the job site, but homeowners can also get a lot of use out of band saws. Right now, Amazon has a very well-reviewed option from a trusted tool brand on sale with a big discount.
The Bosch 18V 5-Inch Deep Cut Band Saw is on sale for $229 at Amazon, 43% off its $399 list price. This price is for the bare tool only, but it’s compatible with all Bosch 18V batteries that you can find on sale for less than $50.
43% OffThis saw has a cutting capacity of 5 inches, so it can handle larger materials — think fence posts or large PVC pipes — with ease. The brushless motor is powerful and efficient, and it can operate as fast or slow as the situation demands thanks to the speed dial and variable-speed trigger that provide precise control. Other user-friendly features include an LED work light that illuminates the cut line, a blade guard for tool-free changes, adjustable material guide for more accurate cuts, built-in hanging hook, and an ergonomic design that lends itself to two-handed operation, a safer and more controlled way to use a saw like this.
One shopper wrote that “this saw cuts through everything I’ve thrown at it.” It’s a “serious saw” that makes “minimal noise” and there’s “very little dust” generated.
Another customer called this saw “easy to use” with a few features that really stand out. “It is really easy to control, allowing for precise cuts,” and “the blade can be easily replaced without any tools required.”
