An electric bike is the best way to get around town when the weather’s nice, faster (and less sweaty) than walking without the expense and hassle of driving, particularly in the era of $5 (and rising) gallons of gas. Some e-bikes, like models meant to carry multiple kids and/or lots of cargo, can cost a lot and take up a lot of space, but for single or double riders there are mini e-bikes, like the one that’s nearly half off at Walmart right now, that are perfect for their needs and much easier to store.
The Aovopro AHT14 Mini Electric Bike is on sale for just $218 at Walmart. This deal is good on a model with a 5.2Ah battery; a pricier 9Ah model is $20 more. It’s a chance to get a very good e-bike that doesn’t skimp on safety for less than $250, and a chance like that doesn’t necessarily come around all that often.
Selling FastThe compact design of this bike is largely due to the 14-inch wheels that makes this bike shorter and lower to the ground than bikes within the more common mid- to high-20 inches. It’s not made for off-roading, but is more than powerful enough — thanks to the 500W motor that can get this thing going up to 20 mph and the 5.2Ah battery with a range up to 25 miles — for city streets. Safetywise, there are headlights, tail lights, a dual braking system, and, maybe most importantly, UL2849 certification, an independently tested fire safety certification for e-bike electrical systems. It features throttle, pedal assist, and full manual modes and folds down easily in case you need to stash it in a trunk, something that would be tricky if not impossible with a full-sized, non-folding bike.
One of the over 1,000 shoppers who left this bike a five-star rating wrote that “this bike is very sturdy and well-constructed” with “really good battery life.” They added that “this bike is a great purchase for the money,” particularly as a starter bike for beginners. It’s also “a perfect bike even if you’ve ridden one before and you just want a cheap little get-around bicycle.”
Another customer wrote that “this e-bike is high quality for the price.” It “gets up to speed pretty quickly, and the brakes have a disc in front and electric brake in the back so you have plenty of stopping power.” Unlike lots of other mini-e-bikes, there’s “no shaking in the front,” a smoother ride than the competition can offer.
