Overview
The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach S ultra-luxury full-size sedan is the kind of car that takes the fight to Bentleys and Rolls-Royces, and it’s the last word from Mercedes in terms of craftsmanship, luxury, and comfort. The 2026 Maybach S comes in two flavors: a 4.0-liter S 580 V8 with 496 horsepower and a 6.0-liter S 680 V12 with 621 hp. Standard 4Matic AWD, AirMatic air suspension, rear-axle steering, and a decadently opulent cabin make it a chauffeur’s delight and an oligarch’s haven, thanks to the first-class back seat.

What’s New for 2026
The Maybach S gets a facelift next year, but this year, the only notable news is the limited S 680 Edition Emerald Isle (two images above and three below), which celebrates California’s Central Coast with 2-tone Mid Ireland Green / Moonlight White paint and the full-house treatment, including the Executive Rear Seat Plus package.

Exterior
The Maybach S distinguishes itself from the S-Class with a unique chromed Maybach grille, an extended chrome package, 20-inch Maybach Exclusive wheels, and available 2-tone paint jobs. Side logo projectors and a panoramic roof are standard. The optional Night Series treatment blacks out all the exterior trim (below right image).

Interior
The interior boasts top-quality materials, a 3D 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 12.8-inch MBUX touchscreen with AR video navigation, an AR head-up display, and 31-speaker Burmester audio. But the rear cabin is the highlight, with nearly 50 inches of legroom, heated, ventilated, and massaging power Executive seats with neck and armrest heating, and 4-zone climate control. Options include a refrigerator, champagne flutes, an Executive Rear Seat package with tray tables, and rear entertainment screens.

Price Range and Best Value Trim
The 2026 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class’s price starts at just over $207K before destination:
| Trim | Price |
| Base trim: S 580 4Matic | $207,150 |
| Top trim: S 680 4Matic | $244,400 |
| Best value trim: S 580 4Matic | $207,150 |
The S 580 essentially delivers the full Maybach experience, but its twin-turbo V8 makes it $37,000 cheaper than the V12 flagship, and it returns a full 5 MPG better, combined, giving a 100-mile longer range with fewer fuel stops.
2026 Mercedes-Maybach S Key Specs
The flagship pairs either a handcrafted V8 or V12 with standard 4Matic AWD.
Powertrain Options
| Engine | Horsepower | Torque | Transmission | Drivetrain |
| Handcrafted 4.0L V8 biturbo (S 580) | 496 hp | 516 lb-ft | 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic | 4Matic AWD |
| Handcrafted 6.0L V12 biturbo (S 680) | 621 hp | 664 lb-ft | 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic | 4Matic AWD |
Performance and 0-60 MPH
Despite a curb weight of over 5,100 pounds, the S 580 accelerates to 60 MPH in 4.7 seconds. Despite its 125-hp power advantage, the S 680 is only 0.4 seconds quicker. Standard AirMatic air suspension, adaptive damping, and 10-degree rear-axle steering improve maneuverability and stability without sacrificing ride comfort.
Fuel Economy (MPG)
The S 580’s EPA figures are quite decent for a 500-hp luxobarge, at 16/27/20 MPG city/highway/combined, but the S 680’s V12 is far heavier on gas, returning 12/20/15 MPG, and cutting its range on a 20.1-gallon tank by 100 miles to 302 miles.
Dimensions
The Maybach S is a full-size luxury sedan on an extended wheelbase.
| Measurement | Value |
| Length | 215.3 in |
| Width (w/o mirrors) | 75.6 in |
| Height | 59.4 in |
| Wheelbase | 133.7 in |
| Curb weight | 5,126 – 5,214 lbs |
Interior Space
| Measurement | Front | Rear |
| Legroom | 41.4 in | 49.1 in |
| Headroom | 39.4 in | 38.1 in |
| Shoulder room | 59.6 in | 58.5 in |
Cargo Space
The trunk capacity of contemporary Mercedes cars is typically below par, and the Maybach S is no exception. The 12.9 cu-ft of trunk space for the S 580 (just 12.3 cu-ft for the S 680) is far worse than that of the BMW 7 Series (19.0 cu-ft).
Ground Clearance
Being a luxury sedan, ground clearance is not a priority, as the Maybach S is made for paved roads. As such, the 5.1 inches of clearance available is marginal, but par for the course for this class of car. The AirMatic air suspension can be raised to negotiate steep ramps or driveways.
Warranty
Warrant coverage is skimpy for such an expensive car, and it comes with no complimentary maintenance.
| Coverage | Term |
| New-Vehicle Limited Warranty | 4 years / 50,000 miles |
| Powertrain | 4 years / 50,000 miles |
| Complimentary maintenance | Not included |
Pros and Cons
Pros:
- Powerful handcrafted V8 and V12 engines
- Supremely quiet, composed ride
- Lavish Executive rear cabin
- Standard AWD, air suspension, and rear-axle steering
- Vast Manufaktur personalization
Cons:
- Very thirsty at 15 mpg combined for S 680 V12
- Modest trunk for the size
- Flagship pricing
Verdict
The Maybach S-Class is built to be enjoyed from the back seat as much as the front, and runs its more expensive rivals close for pure luxury and opulence. The S 680 has one of the last V12s left in any car, but the V8 S 580 is the better buy, offering much the same experience for $37K less and with a far lower fuel thirst and longer driving range. You don’t need the V12 to enjoy the best of Maybach.
