Overview

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is a midsize luxury electric SUV, despite that “S” in the name that may lead you to expect a full-size car like an Escalade IQ. Instead, typical rivals are the Tesla Model X, Cadillac Vistiq, BMW iX, and Volvo EX90. It comes in a choice of two powertrains – an EQS 400 4Matic with 355 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, and an EQS 550 4Matic with 536 hp and 633 lb-ft, both using the same 118-kWh battery that can be DC fast-charged at up to 200 kW.

Up to 317 miles of range is available, but the EQS SUV has proven capable of beating its EPA claims, so range is a strong suit. Normally a 2-row 5-seater, you can order a third row for up to 7 people, complete with seat heating and HVAC. Rear-wheel steering, power soft-closing doors, and AirMatic air suspension are standard.

What’s New for 2026?

The 2026 EQS SUV range is trimmed, losing the cbase RWD trim, but simultaneous price cuts of $15,000 – $18,000 mean that the 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV’s price list now starts under $90K. The remaining trims are renamed, with the 450 becoming the 400 and the 580 becoming the 550, though the powertrains remain unchanged. Other changes include:

  • A NACS adapter is standard this year, granting the EQS SUV access to the Tesla Supercharger network.
  • Rear-wheel steering up to 4.5 degrees now comes as standard on both trims, but you’ll need to pay $1,600 to get the full 10-degree range.
  • The second row gains seat heating, pillowed headrests, side airbags, and a wireless charger.
  • Two “sound experience” options to replace engine noise become available, called Granular Fizz and Fractal Fusion.
  • Patagonia Red paint is new this year.
  • The automatic soft-close doors are no longer listed as standard, but as a $2,600 option.

Exterior

The EQS SUV’s smooth, aerodynamic lines with its flush door handles and flowing roof have been accused of being somewhat globular and anodyne, but the details give it presence, such as the Digital Light LED headlights, front and rear light bars, and the big 21-inch alloy wheels. AMG 22-inch wheels are optional, along with sportier AMG body styling. At nearly 202 inches long and just over 80 inches wide, it sits at the upper end of the midsize segment.

Interior

The standard pillar-to-pillar 56-inch Hyperscreen comprising a 12.3-inch gauge cluster, 17.7-inch OLED touchscreen, and 12.3-inch passenger display defines the cabin and incorporates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation, “Hey, Mercedes” voice control, and a 15-speaker Burmester audio system.

Cabin amenities include leather upholstery, ventilated power front seats, heated front and second-row seats, 4-zone climate control, 64-color ambient lighting, and a panoramic roof. A heated third row and 5-zone climate control cost extra. Trunk space is 23 cu-ft behind the second row and 74 cu-ft behind the first.

Top (most expensive): EQS 550 4Matic$112,450

The sub-$90K EQS 400 has 355 hp, a 312-mile range, the Hyperscreen, air suspension, rear-axle steering, leather, ventilated seats, a panoramic roof, and a NACS adapter, so it’s the best value.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • >$15,000 price reduction from 2025 dramatically improves value
  • 56-inch MBUX Hyperscreen is standard
  • Standard rear-axle steering enhances maneuverability
  • Available 7-seat configuration adds family versatility
  • 10-year/155,000-mile battery warranty provides lasting confidence

Cons:

  • 6,300-pound+ curb weight impacts efficiency and handling agility
  • RWD option gone for 2026
  • 200-kW DC charging slower than some newer competitors
  • Third-row seating tight for adults
  • Replacement model is expected, potentially limiting resale value

Verdict

The Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV is a lot better value this year after substantial price cuts, and the base trim with a few options like the HUD and wallbox charger will still be way cheaper than the standard 2025 model. With the standard Hyperscreen, two heated seating rows, leather, NACS adapter, and rear-axle steering standard, it hardly needs anything else.

The 312-mile range is typically improved upon in real-world driving, too. It’s not particularly quick and doesn’t feel sporty, but this car does comfort best, and will be appreciated for its Mercedes luxury, whisper-quiet cabin, and comfortable ride.
