See how Land Rover restores Defenders and take one off-road

Jaguar Land Rover currently offers restorations of the Series I Land Rover via the Jaguar Land Rover Classic division, and it has opened the doors to the public. For £29, or a little over $35 at current exchange rates (plus a trip to the UK) you can watch technicians breathe life back into classic Landies.

The facility is in Solihull, England, home of the Range Rover and Range Rover sport factory. Tours kick off with refreshments for guests. From there, a walk through the shop shows various stages of restoration while the tour guide tells the history of the Defender line and production methods. For those interested in owning a restored Series I, Land Rover provides customers the opportunity to select a vehicle in need of restoration. The shop will fully restore the truck back to 1948 specifications in one of five classic colors.

Even if you don't have the money to spend on an old-school British 4x4, you can still get behind the wheel of one while visiting Jaguar Land Rover Classic. For £150, or $183, you can take a Defender onto the off-road course at the facility, which you can see at the one minute mark in the video above. You'll also have a trained instructor along to keep you from damaging the truck or yourself. It's not exactly cheap, but it's a deal compared to the legendary running costs of owning and maintaining a Land Rover.
