No, it's not a record-setting lap, but with a time 9 minutes and 40 seconds, the Electric RaceAbout did narrowly beat the 9:51 lap set by a modified Mini E back in 2010 at the famed Nürburgring in Germany.
Sure, the radically styled Peugeot EX1 lapped the 'Ring in 9 minutes 1.338 seconds, but not all electric vehicles are blessed with 340 horsepower and an aerodynamic design that our boy Domenick Yoney called "electric sex on wheels." The RaceAbout's 33-kWh lithium-titanate battery pack sends juice to four wheel-mounted electric motors and, theoretically, the RaceAbout reach a top speed of 136 miles per hour. The Electric RaceAbout may be crude, but it's a work in progress – and it was built by students at the Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Science, not a big multinational corporation. So take that, Mini.
