Seyth Miersma

Senior Editor (email | twitter | google+) Subscribe to RSS

Raised and groomed in the art of car writing by way of the magical internet, Seyth Miersma has carved out a career in the automotive world by telling stories about great roads and great cars. With fleeting exceptions being made for a few newspapers in Texas, Miersma’s words have been rendered with ones and zeros in the digital pages of Winding Road magazine, where he began as a freelancer in 2006 and left as Editor-in-Chief in 2012. Miersma brings the experience of hundreds of car reviews and comparison tests to the Autoblog crew, as well as a love for first-wave Japanese imports, racing video games that only rarely involve stuff blowing up, and driving through the dark of a fall morning in third gear with the radio off. He is very tall (the 97th percentile-set should read Miersma’s reviews with a close eye).

    Second Drive: 2015 Volkswagen Golf R [w/video]
Grip It And Rip It 1416848340

Volkswagen hired a photographer to come shoot the handful of journalists that it brought to drive the 2015 Golf R at Buttonwillow Raceway north of Los Angeles. This fact, though unremarkable in and of itself, was something I hadn't noticed until I was well into my track time – probably ten ...

    1416432000

Audi went Hollywood for its debut of the forward-looking Prologue concept car last night, pulling the silks back at a sprawling LA manse in the hills. The cost-no-object unveiling of the car, as well as its prominent positioning at this year's LA Auto Show, speaks to the importance with which the ...

Wolverines, Whiskey And The Apogee Of Grand Touring 1415984220

At a Halloween party a couple of weeks ago, a rather inebriated new acquaintance of mine pulled a beautiful round flask out of his extravagant wolverine costume (the animal, not the X-Men character – I live in Ann Arbor) and offered me a pull. I wasn't driving, and I'm neither an asshole ...

Any time you see this iconic moment in pop culture – Shut up and take my money! – posted in response to a new car reveal, rumor for an upcoming model or even lip-service to a vehicle that should exist, you can bet there's some intrinsic good in the idea. Though depending on the person ...

Official: Jaguar bringing all-wheel-drive F-Type to LA Auto Show [w/video]
    1415284200

Jaguar's big splash at last year's Los Angeles Auto Show was showing off the slinky F-Type Coupe; perhaps one of the loveliest car shapes on the road today. This year the company won't have a show-stopping new design to offer, but the news that all-wheel drive is coming to the F-Type range is, ...

We Get Down And Dirty With The Newest Chevy Parts Catalog Additions 1415206800

Desert trails and hot laps; if there's a better way to kick off SEMA I'd like to hear it. Hanging around racetracks with the folks at Chevrolet is beginning to be a bit of a SEMA tradition for me. Last year, I found myself learning to drag race with near-COPO levels of awesomeness at Las ...

SEMA: 2015 Chevrolet COPO Camaro is the king of our quarter-mile dreams
    1415149260

Chevy introduced the fourth generation of its COPO Camaro at the SEMA show today; another limited run muscle car that should set drag racing fans' mouths to salivating. Just 69 examples of the 2015 COPO will be built (the same as the first three runs of the car), with customers able to choose ...

SEMA: Chevrolet gives us a Sonic for show and one for go
    1415138220

Amongst the treasure trove of tuning that Chevrolet has brought to SEMA this year, this pair of Sonic hatches is perhaps the most accessible. With one car tweaked for show and the other go, both halves of the SEMA ethos are nicely represented. The Sonic Performance Concept has been fitted with ...

As is the case with most auto shows, waiting for the reveal of hot new models is the worst part. Rod Emory was the founder of Emory Motorsports in Burbank, CA, and the scion to a family tradition of building "outlaw" Porsches that are almost as cool as the cars themselves. The lovingly modified Porsche 356s are lovely artifacts, and their story, along with the story of their builders, is ...

What Does Your Car Say About You? 1413388680

What kind of watch do you wear? Especially today, when wearing a wristwatch is practically obviated by the near-ubiquitous use of cellphones, the timepiece found on one's arm makes a statement about how people perceive themselves. A sport watch from Nike or Garmin would seem to indicate ...

Horsepower may steal a lot of headlines, but the always-more-complex torque figure is often a critical one for both the workingman and the motoring playboy.
