Volkswagen has finally revealed images of its all-electric I.D. concept vehicle based on the upcoming modular electric drive kit, or MEB. The concept, set to debut at the Paris Motor Show this week, signals a new direction for the beleaguered company that's continuing to deal with repercussions of the emissions scandal that broke last year.
When we previewed Volkswagen's offerings at the Paris Motor Show, we were told the new EV will have a range of 373 miles, though at the time we didn't know what shape this new vehicle would take. The I.D. concept's design is reminiscent of other recent EV efforts like the Chevrolet Bolt or BMW i3. Expect more details this week after the I.D.'s full debut.
Volkswagen is making an about-face to lose its tarnished, emissions scandal-blotted reputation. Diesel is out, and the new plan is to release 30 new electric or hybrid vehicles in the next decade. Look for technology from the I.D. concept to trickle in through Volkswagen's entire lineup.
