The coverage coming out of the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show was filled with vehicles that run the gamut of the automotive spectrum, but one vehicle in particular caught the eyes of journalists and readers alike. The 2012 Porsche 911 was the darling of the Frankfurt show, and the data backs it up.

According to browsing and social media data compiled by UK company Kantar Media Precis, the new 911 was the most (virtually) talked about machine in attendance. Websites, blogs and social media feeds were all abuzz, and it was the latest 911 that dominated all discussions.

We're guilty of falling in love with the German sports car as well. We spoke about both the standard 911 and the Carrera S, and are gearing up for another 50 or so variants set to debut in the next decade and a half.

This car deserves every accolade it gets. It's gorgeous and exciting. There's nothing like witnessing the debut of a new 911; you know that so much awesomeness is still to come.

So many of the comment here show the problem with the world today, people would rather own mutton dressed up as lamb than a car true to both its racing and aesthetic heritage. You think it looks like a Beetle, has lazy designers etc., well you can gild your lillies all you like, I'll that this Beetle over your Datsun 180B dressed up as a Veyron anyday!

im loving this car more and more every time i see it. so glad they FINALLY gave it a nice interior worthy of a $100K car. looking forward to see what the turbo has in store. now if they can only do something about the option price list....which is still kinda egregious.

That's kind of sad. Let's be honest, the 911 is a very plain car, and for that to be the main attention grabber at a massive auto show like Frankfurt is sad.

because IBx27 is used to driving his McLaren F1 and his brand new Huayra, a 911 is too boring for him.

No, not plain at all. Understated? Yes. Familiar? Definitely. But still not bland. If you want a complete lack of practicality and massive flair, go Italian. The 991 is a seriously attractive car, even if the shape has been around for 50 years.

honestly I was at the IAA... and by miles the most attention most visitors were at Audi... so much that it was nearly impossible to get pictures of the cars... they drove R8 LMS through their hall onto the stage were real DTM race driver gave interviews... compared to that the Porsche hall was empty According to German media the visitors took some 20million pictures during the 2011 IAA...and most of them were NOT taken at Porsche... at Audi were most visitors, at Mercedes were more visitors, at BMW VW Lamborghini and Bugatt were more visitors... even Peugoet, Alfa Romeo and Citroen were more visit than Porsche. The Porsche lot was extremly boring the only highligt was the Manthey Racing 3 time 24h northloop winning 997 GT3 RSR parked next to a GT3 RS 4.0 can´´t belive that claim...
