2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 – Click above to view video after the jump

Mercedes-Benz showed off the 2011 SLS AMG GT3 at this year's Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance, giving the well-heeled a first look at Benz's latest big boy toy. Ever the gracious blue-bloods, Merc made a high-def video detailing the car for us peons who couldn't make the show.

For the GT3 SLS, Mercedes took a break from its usual conservatism and got all liberal with the carbon fiber, crafting the seat, safety cell, much of the bodywork and the splitter, diffuser and rear wing out of the black stuff.

The car also gets an air jack system and 19-inch centerlock wheels to help make it GT3 competitive. The best part of the video, though, is the sound of the SLS GT3's raucous, 563-horsepower V8 barking through unsilenced side pipes. Click past the jump to check it out.

      @Akis

      In addition to my previous comment, this goes for direct-injection engines, yet even if the engine has a dry-sump oil system, revving it cold right from start-up isn't the best (or smartest) thing to do...

      this video was made by mercedes for old guys, when you have to explian that carbon fiber makes the car lighter!!! and those vents he pointed to on the hood, those are for the heat from the backside of the radiator so as too not let more heat back into engine compartment(the others are up by windshield dumby). and those vents for the rear brakes, good idea, except where at speed, and they will probably draw in the exhaust gasses from the headers in the same channel directly in front of em!!! then we get to the back of the car, once agian explianing to the old guys what a diffuser is!!! LMAO.

        Now that's what I'm talking about! Thanks for posting the link.

      that is one intense looking car...but isn't it bad to just turn your car on and immediately rev it up like that? xD
        • 3 Years Ago
        Yeah, if an engine is cold, it should run for AT LEAST 30 seconds before being driven [harshly] or revved [that high], in order to give the oil a chance to travel all over throughout the engine. While an engine is off for a while, most of the oil seeps to the bottom of it, thus meaning there are uneven levels of oil throughout the engine.

        Ever hear of video editing? Besides, how does one know that engine is cold? That thing could have just run 100 laps for all we know...

      I get the impression this guys is good at regurgitating a lot of big words and throwing in a few superlatives… but he doesn’t really seem to understand what they all mean.

      Looks good except for that front wing.

      This is not a "very very" good presenter

      It seems like they've aimed this video at the typical American Mercedes-Benz buyer. Not for anyone who might actually be interested in a car like this. You know, someone who might actually know what the heck carbon fiber is.

      Sounds like a video you show a prospective SLS owner to make a sale and not something a car enthusiast would like to see...
