Mark Monea pulls off the Carry On – Click above to watch video after the jump

We typically file motocross tricks somewhere between complete insanity and diabolical madness in the Dewey Decimal system that rules our minds, but we're going to need to work up an all-new category for Mark Monea's new stunt. The Australian has been working on a variation of the motorcycle front flip called the Carry On, and after four weeks of plopping himself bike-and-all into the foam pit, he finally took the trick to terra firma.

While ridiculously-skilled individuals have been pulling off front flips on bikes for the better part of two years now, Monea decided that going topsy-turvy face first was child's play. So, he added a little bit of spice to the equation by throwing in a 360-degree flat spin in on top of the front flip.

If you're having trouble wrapping your mind around the mechanics of such a feat, join the club. Fortunately, Monea and his crew were kind enough to record the whole shindig for prosperity and our twisted enjoyment. Hit the jump to check it out.

Australians use inches too! All right!
No, thats unusual. Every other tape measure I've seen has millimetres on one side and inches on the other. People still use inches for height, in surfing waves are described in feet, but thats about it. Everything else is metric.

Looks out of control as he does that trick, pretty impressive that he manages to control and land it

Words cant describe this... regardless, "I'll be dog gamn"!!!!

"...to record the whole shindig for prosperity ... "

      Posterity?

        That was a Rickyism!

Monea can not only jump - he reinvents jumping to new epic levels of awesomeness.

But........I honestly thought there was something actually wrong with my sound card or headphones when watching the interview portion of the video. Can you say lolly pop gang ? Either that or he injects himself with helium in order to get a little bit lighter for these jumps into the stratosphere and its taking a toll on his chords.

Must be insane to get the bike & Mark out of the foam pit.
I am surprised that the foam did not melt when touching the bike exhaust?

I did burned my legs many time in the summer while wearing only shorts.
Is it strange that I'm more curious about how they get the bike out of the foam pit than the trick itself?
Yes, it is strange. Because if you watch the video, the bike is being pulled out by a crane. The bike gets pulled out first, then the rider is pulled out. If they had a perfect setup, they can pull both out at the same time. Travis has a similar hoist setup that I just described.

Most MX foam pits have a winch/crane nearby to lift the bike out. There's usually a rope climb for the rider. Most bicycle related foam pits don't have a winch and you have to pull yourself and your bike out using the supplied rope.

I guess playing video games and being able to do this virtually has left me jaded. Don't get me wrong, it's still an impressive feat and I'm sure if I attempted it in real life, I'd end up as a smear on the dirt, but I was expecting a bit more of a "wow" factor to hit me when watching this.
I [used] to play a lot of Gran Turismo, but I'm still awestruck when I see someone at the track maneuver their car flawlessly like "a video game."

Sucks for you, but this is sick!!
Seriously? You're going to compare what you do in a video game to what dude did in reality? Wow, step away from the computer and gaming console, and go get some sun. It's a sad, sad day when this happens.

        TrippulG3,

Actually, thats a fine attitude to have. Now make sure you play some extra Call of Duty in case there's a draft, we could use some desensitized soldiers....lol..
I'm not saying it wasn't impressive, it's definitely a cool vid and I enjoyed watching it. I guess I'm just commenting on how seeing and performing things like this (albeit in a virtual environment) takes some of that "new car sheen" off of seeing it in real life, since you've kind of already seen it before.

Say hello to X-Games gold. Goodbye double back flip, hello carry-on.
You can't downplay the double though... the carry-on is sick, but the double is still pretty amazing.
The double backflip is still awesome, but X-Games is all about the next ridiculous trick. And I think this is it. The backflip has had its time to shine. And almost kill people on TV.
