Need For Speed Shift 2 Unleashed Pagan Huayra - Click above to watch video after the jump

We hate to be the ones to tell you this, but chances are pretty slim that you'll ever get the opportunity to slide behind the wheel of the new Pagani Huayra. Blame it on the numbers. Pagani is only planning on cranking out so many Huayra models, and there just so happens to be a shave under 7 billion people on the planet. Throw in the fact that each of the 700-horsepower Italian exotics will carry a price tag of near $1.35 million and the odds start to look even more bleak.

Hey, at least you're in good company. We're sitting in the exact same boat as you.

Fortunately for all of us, then, the Need for Speed franchise has come to our rescue. While we may not be able to find out in person just how fast 740 pound-feet of torque can move a 3,000 pound supercar, we will get a shot at flinging the carbon-fiber creation down a few virtual streets in Shift 2 Unleashed. In fact, the game is the only racing outlet to feature the newest addition to the Pagani family, so if you want to play with this bad boy, you're going to have to pick up the latest addition to the Need for Speed library. Hit the jump for a quick trailer.

I hope they upload some in-game footage. If the sound is this strong all the time, I'll be sold. I miss the audio awesomeness from NFSU2. My ideal game is NFSU2 sound, Forza Physics, GTA maps.

Anyone knows any recent title which as A1 Ring in the track list?

..I mean really FIA should consider that as Austrian GP and have it on calender again rather than stupid training track in Abu Dhabi

Shift 2 is gonna rock from all that I've seen thus far.

NFS may not be that great in their physics department, but they have always been one of the best out there in making porn for your ears. I LOVE the sounds in NFS games.

Sounds more like a Zonda than a Huayra. That's probably a good thing.

Im having mixed feelings about this game because shift 1 wasnt very good. Now EA racing games usually never have good car simulation, like the new need for speed hot pursuit. But Hot Pursuit 2 for PS2 knew how to kick butt.

Wow you must be on crack, the first Shift was amazing!

@groza: NFS Shift was fun, but it's no hardcore sim. That's not entirely a bad thing either, but the lack of fine control (with a G25 on PC) made me stop playing after a few hours.

Shift 1 was fine, but it didn't beat Forza or GT at their own game, which was kind of the point. On PS3, anyway, it had slower framerates, more jagged graphics, and more arcade-y physics, without being more fun than its more realistic rivals.

The new Hot Pursuit is a hot mess, IMO. Bought it, played it, and returned it in the space of a week. The first-ever Need For Speed was fantastic because it put you behind a realistic dashboard, on "real" roads with "real" traffic--incredibly immersive for the 1990s. It was more of a sim than any other console driving game until GT1 came along--and even then, it had more of a free, open-world feel than GT.

I'll try Shift 2 when it comes out, but I still don't understand why EA can't get back in touch with what made NFS/NFS2 so great. The Test Drive Unlimited franchise has picked up where NFS left off, but given their past successes, I feel like EA could do the same concept much better if they could be bothered to.

Excellent. Have played and loved the last two nfs games. This might be revolutionary.

      GT5.....what? The graphics looks sick

This might have just turned me off to the entire game, look at those side sills and the rear wheel. I think I could have done better in photoshop.

This game looks amatuer, and if it plays like Shift it will feel like it as well.

Shift is fun, but it misses the mark that GT5 hits (realistic) and Forza acheives (fun, but still realistic).

Graphics in GT5 are still better, but if the gameplay is anything like this video, this should have a much better "sense of speed" than GT5, where going 150 feels like going 30 :(

@AnalogDan: Spot on with that comment. It's funny you mentioned how GT5 feels slower than it is but I guess that's the realism factor for you; I drove a race-prepped V8 at Eastern Creek in December; I was pulling around 120mph down the straight but it didn't feel like I was doing anywhere near that.

      short summary: flames, flames, flames.
lol, graphics bug in the first screenshot where the exhaust flames should be rendered above the grille texture, but seems to be rendered behind it.
