Goodyear Support Our Troop NASCAR tires – Click above for high-res image gallery

It's the Fourth of July weekend, kids. Emergency rooms all across the country are preparing for a myriad of alcohol, barbecue and fireworks related injuries, and coolers everywhere are stocked with the least expensive alcoholic beverages possible. Goodyear is jumping into the celebration by changing the sidewall design of its tires used in all three NASCAR series just for this weekend. A special message of support for our country's troops will join the standard Goodyear winged-foot logo. In addition to the red-white and blue slogan, the tire manufacturer will also donate $20,000 to a leading military support program.

The company also plans to auction off a set of the unique tires, complete with driver logos after the Coke Zero 400 this Saturday. The cash from the sale will be donated to Support Our Troops – a non-profit that focuses on raising morale of American soldiers and their families all around the world.

If you want one of the special tires, head over to Goodyear's website as soon as the race gets started on July 3. Bidding will begin when the green flag drops and will wrap up on July 17.

      teabag party supporter?

I'm not American, i don't even live in the same continent.

Couldn't care less about your politics
So why even leave a comment like that if you've never watched the sport?
Do you realize that Nascar is broadcasted outside the US?

Support the troops by BRINGING THEM HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Instead of swapping digs, how do you feel about colored tires? I'd be surprised if anyone DOESN'T "support our troops", but their patriotism has nothing to do with whether we should be in Iraq or Afghanistan in the first place! Uniformed ground troops will NEVER eliminate Al quaida or the taliban--only an army of undercover infitraters that look like and speak Arabic will ever accomplish that. Consider this: Is an American soldier's life worth more than a Russian's? They couldn't win--and the area is THEIR "sphere of influence"; NOT OURS!!

I am a Postal worker & an avid Nascar fan. I also have a son that's serving OUR country for his 3RD tour in Iraq. The 'highest paid' Postal worker ever was Lance Armstrong. And he got his 'feelers hurt' & didn't have the balls (no pun intended) to even THANK the postal service during his last victory speech down on Congress Ave in Austin, TX, in front of the capitol of the city that 'adopted' him. I think the USPS would've better served this country of red blooded Americans by placing the same tires that NASCAR ran this weekend on every vehicle that brings every American's mail to it's destination, on a daily basis (except for Sunday) "to their door" to remind them of what the Constitution is really about, from DAY ONE of this Gulf War MESS. God Bless Our Troops! Nothings "CHANGED" but the folks we have running our great country. It's not about a race, be it on two wheels, or four or the skin color people want to whine about.Hey...How about a good old fashion lesson of "Get over yourself, everybody??"
P.S. Good Year Tires:....The tires y'all put on the '09 Dodge Chargers....REALLY SUCK!! Can I get some "Support Our Troops" tires before these 'Eagle what evers' make me come close to wrecking again on the slightest sign of wet pavement??? I'll be your best 'spokes person' or your worst nightmare...depends on what tires I'm running. I knew I should've bought a Chevy......

Hey! AOL! This is ON TOPIC AND IT ISN'T ADVERTISING A DATING SITE!!!!!!! The Tea Party will be ALLOWED by NASCAR to be an "avid supporter" if they'll kick up however many thousand dollars NASCAR requires to have its logo painted on the car.. then if the car gets wrecked and slows down, the observers will actually be able to read it. AOL!!! I DARE YOU TO POST THIS COMMENT!! IT'S ON TOPIC AND EVERITHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        @AnalogDan

His opinion has absolutely nothing to do with the article. He's just protesting his hate for the sport these tires are being used at.
        Again, I shall ask...

Why come into this article if you don't like the subject? You don't see me going into green vehicle articles talking crap about them. Nobody is putting a gun to your head to read this.

Plus, that's pretty damn heartless to ignore the reason for the article.
Never quite understood the American fascination for this type of race...

        @AnalogDan

You have a real problem reading the WHOLE comment.
Why wouldn't someone support the Tea Party? Or even go to the point of hating them?

All they want is the budget to be balanced. It's not unreasonable. It's actually pretty important. I guess some people just have to have someone to hate, so they have invented this 'teabagger' thing with racism and crazies and apparently Nascar fans.

You should reevaluate your life and perhaps your news sources. I know a lot of reasonable Tea partiers, and you don't need to be afraid of them.

        ---

What's a shame about this Goodyear promo is that they obviously spent substantial money informing people of their generosity. But the actual donation, $20,000, is pathetic. Doesn't seem like such a selfish gesture.

Never quite understood why people seem that someone is outing a gun to their heads making them read these articles.

And it's like none of you are even reading the article. Read the damn article, it's not just about NASCAR.

        Damn teabagger party supporters.
Actually I would venture to say that most Tea Party Supporters are avid NASCAR supporters. However, moving on. I am not a fan of NASCAR at all, but I do respect all forms of motorsport.

I think the sport could become very popular if they injected a bit of life into the platforms.

1.) A chevy lumina is not cool at all, why not just take the new Camaro chassis and run that around the ring. I would definetly watch that.

2.) is fuel injection going to happen anytime soon?

3.) get different sponsors on the hood of the car, Tide is great for stains not for racing!

4.) Spend money on excitement and not gimicks like different colored tires!

"most Tea Party Supporters are avid NASCAR supporters"

That's mathmatically impossible. The Tea party received favorable ratings in polling that is more than exponentially larger than Nascar's TV ratings.

You're a bigot. Sorry, but you're prejudiced against people. I don't know where you became so badly misinformed, but the Tea party has similar demographics to the general population. Age, sex, race (fewer blacks are the main exception). They are more conservative, but not much more. In fact, I know a lot of democrats in the Tea party protests I show up at.

All we want is to stop the government from growing so huge. We're out of money.

This has nothing to do with Nascar, except that some people really hate Nascar instead of just ignoring it. I think that, too, is some kind of bizarre bigotry. I watch AMLS when Speed isn't covering Nascar and other things I don't care about. Why waste your time worrying about Nascar? You should join the Tea party. It's pretty irrational to disagree with their concept that we shouldn't spend money we don't have.

I think its a Wonderful Idea from Goodyear - and for our troops, I praise the idea 100% - Sensational. Love it.
Like the ribbon stickers, I'm waiting for the "empty gesture" tires.
I support the troops, I say bring them home.
Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, and soon to be-Iran are all based upon the 9/11 myth.

I love my country. I love our troops. I support our troops. I do not love our President. I don't even like him. I do not support our President. As a matter of fact I don't think he is qualified to be the Commander in Chief. I didn't vote for him either. I voted for the American. The one who served in the military. The one who swore to GOD to defend this nation. The one who can pronounce Marine Corps correctly. The one who knows what to do when the national anthem is played. And of course, I love Nascar.
