Citroën DS3 – Click above for high-res image gallery

Citroën's got big plans for its DS3. Not only is the premium hatchback launching the new DS line for the French automaker, but the vehicle itself is set to breed some serious performance variants. Now, following a batch of spy shots showing a rally-prepped version of the DS3 comes reports that parent company PSA is considering giving the green light to a street-legal performance version. So with the likes of the Alfa MiTo and upcoming Audi A1 closing in, the Mini Cooper S has been put on notice yet again.

Just how close to home will the prospective DS3 hot hatch hit? Considering that the Citroën shares its PSA/BMW co-developed engine with the Mini, pretty close. As it is, the top-of-the-line DS3 packs a 154-horsepower version of the 1.6-liter four, hitting 60 in an admirable 7.3 seconds. With output expected to come between 170 and 200 hp, the hottest DS3 could not only take on the Cooper S, but also other hot hatches like the SEAT Ibiza Cupra and Clio Renaultsport 200, to name just a few. Sources peg its launch for some time next year, so stay tuned.

I'm cool with the funky design, but why is that chick about to eat her keys in the last picture? What is that even supposed to mean?

I don't think Mini will be worried about this car being "competition".
Agreed. Mini buyers are looking for something adorable. This is not adorable, its more along the badass lines. The Fiat 500 makes a more formitable compeditor in the battle for cutest car.

Not in America anyway, Europe and Australia maybe.

Too overstyled, too round; it looks like a car out of a kid's playbox...

Sacre bleu! Just not busy enough. Merde.
Okay, why can't we have such bold designs in a hatch/sedan around US? Instead we get the bulbous Corolla or the fugly Aveo.

        Very cute.

        So much better than Matrix!

Has anyone noticed the fantastic photography, yet?
But then again their vizualisation team did some sloppy work on a few of those retouches... . From shadow to light the 'jumping' wheels, dear me that is basic photoshop!

Still a great set of not-seen-so-often car images!

Well done, wierd, but in a good way.

This would have made a great saturn.

Overdone front end. Overall is okay

Isn't Citroen one of the 12389012394 brands in bed with Fiat these days? Any chance we can get this as a caliber? ;) or renault? Hotter than the Nissan Versa.

I follow the news, but Euro-mergers give me headaches. How are we supposed to clamor for this (for years so that we can never get it or get a watered-down version after 15 years)?
if Citroen doesnt bring this too the states, i immediately demand GM or Ford too go buy this freaking car company and bring the dam car too the states so i can get this were it well sell faster then cup cakes at a weight-loss convention!!!!!!
