Dodge Viper ACR 1:33 Edition – Click above for high-res image gallery

We heard about it in Los Angeles, and now we see it here in the D. Meet the 1:33 Edition of Dodge's most potent ever Viper. Why the name? We're glad you asked. Back in November, hot-shoe Dodge Chris Winkler managed to hammer the track-focused Viper ACR around Laguna Seca in 1:33.944, faster than any other production car has ever gone (Note: the spoiler says 1:33.915). Impressive, no? Only 33 of these special Vipers are being built.

Here's what makes 'em so grand: Thanks to new, more bonkers gearing, the 600-horsepower monster does everything quicker. Try this statistic on for size: 0 to 202 miles-per-hour happens 14 seconds quicker with this 2010 Viper ACR than the 2009 model. Can we get a wolf whistle? The 1:33 Edition also gets a unique two-tone Black Clear Coat/Red Clear Coat exterior color, the inverse of the original ACR, as well as modified end caps on its massive carbon-fiber wing, too. We're going to miss the uncircumsized Dodge Viper (how would you describe it?), but at least it's going out with a big bang.

That car would kill me in 14.1 seconds.

      ..

14.1 seconds? Try, like instantly. I'm pretty sure I would explode as soon as my right foot hits the pedal.

I can't believe I once thought that beast was cool. It's a car for 14-year-old boys who want loud Vrooom Vroom!

Clearly your taste in cars did not get better with age.

I just thought of something else I'd like to see in the next Forza3 DLC pack.

I tried Laguna Seca with an older Viper, couldn't get down to 1:33 though.

First came the Dodge Stealth, then the Viper was born. I so dreamed of someday earning enough money to own one of these. This is the true American super sports car. It woke the American public and the world up. It blasted the Vettes' and the Mustangs away. It made the Porsches' and Lamberguinis' rethink the industry. This was the rebirth of the muscle car!

Shouldn't that little track outline on the back say "Mazda Raceway"?

      Kidding! mostly.... ;-)

Indeed the paint job is not easy on the eyes and I believe the colors need to be swapped like the original ACR, or maybe like a snakeskin green with black racing stripes. Either way people will know exactly what this car is when they see it.

I know a lot of people here on AB despise the Viper, but the reaction I've heard from most folks who've driven them is alone the lines of:
"It's the most awful car I've ever wanted to make sweet love to."

I absolutely loved driving the Viper SRT-10. It's such a monster. I would love to get behind the wheel of a 1:33 edition though, looks like it would be a life-changer! I keep trying to convince the wife that the Viper (not bad prices on lightly used ones!!) is the way to go for my next 'toy car', but she's more in the 'vette camp :-/

There are three kinds of people who own Vipers: People with rotating glass pedestals in their garage, a Stig, and people who want to commit suicide for just more money than high power rifle (second-hand I have seen vipers under 20k). I am none of those, and I know that if I did have one I would quickly become an environmentalist hippie (i.e. the car hugging a tree.)

      @ Spec
Aren't we all teenagers deep inside
      Vrom vrom............yes please.
That's what cars should be about.

      @ PorscheSpyder
The name won't disappear, but the car will be rebuilt completely from scratch.

...at least there's one Chrysler product I'd be willing to give my left nut for. And they're only making 33 of them. Damnit.
