VIDEO: New VW Scirocco R and Golf R hit the track
Volkswagen Golf R20 and Scirocco R track-side -- Click above to watch video
In another astronaut-ish commercial, VW has thrown two test drivers in a G-force simulator and on the track in two of its blistering blue R-line cars: the Scirocco R and the Golf R20. It's like the Ferrari video, but with less yellow and red... and less money. We're not quite sure what's happening with the G-Force segments, but we'd like to be driving those track portions ourselves. Follow the jump to check out the video. Hat tip to Mehdi

I think its a beautiful car, kind of what the C30 should have looked like.

Well, seeing as they are completely different companies you can't really expect VW-design on a Volvo :)

I love the Scirocco R, but the Golf R greatly lessens the pain of the Sci not coming to America. It would be a lot worse if we weren't getting anything good to make up for it - kinda like all the RWD Holdens we don't get here.

Here's a video of the Golf R for you guys.

IMO, It looks a LOT better and upscale than the Scirocco in real life.

I'm with Brody, except the redesign of the C30 is amazing

I know everyone loves the Scirrocco, and while it is a great looking car, I personally prefer the looks of the R20 to it. I think the proportions are better on the R.

I never cared for the Scirocco. It's awkward proportions make it looks like a squashed Golf.

i love the scirocco but seeing both in motion together makes the R20 that much more appealing. nice.

Wow, great cars, I wish VW would bring the Scirocco to America already.

I'd say VW should bring the Scirocco to the US now...(and ditch the Eos in the process).
Kaveh 9:47PM (9/20/2009)
Agreed, The EOS is kinda boring. But when I started driving Scirocco's and Corrado's were hot and never could afford one. But now VW should bring it on.

VW of America, listen up. You're afraid of the Scirocco cannibalizing sales from the GTI? Simple problem, the GTI shouldn't be thought of as a Golf/Rabbit GTI, Just a VW GTI. Make this easier, make them look different. Dump the GTI and Bring the Scirocco here and name it the GTI. GTI has more brand identity than Scirocco anyway.

ask your politicians to make the dollar stronger and you will bet a lot of great cars you don't get now in the US.

The GTI is not marketed as the Golf GTI, it's now just GTI. Up until the Mk4's it was the Golf GTI though. On the window sticker of one of my Mk4 GTI's, the full name was actually VW Golf GTI GLX VR6, quite a mouthful. They've shortened it significantly for the Mk5's and beyond since they got rid of the GLS/GLX trim levels, only offer one engine now and also dropped Golf from the name.
However, I still disagree that they should differentiate the GTI and the Golf, the GTI has always been a performance Golf. The Scirocco has basically been a designer Golf, a less boxy Golf if you will. Still built on the same platform though.
I personally think they should just offer the Scirocco here outright just like they sold the 1st and 2nd gen Sciroccos and the Corrado here as well. They shouldn't be worried about cannablizing sales from the GTI. If someone chooses to buy a Scirocco over a GTI, guess what? They still bought a VW. Sounds like a win either way to me.
Kaveh 6:38PM (9/21/2009)
I think VW is doing good in America so I see no reason for them to have the GTI and the Scirocco here. But another couple cars I want is GTD and that on Golf with the 1.4 liter supercharged and turbo charged motor. I am tempted to import one of those 1.4L engines and transplant it into my Jetta.

I like both cars, now when will they bring those cars to the US?

Hi, VW? Can you bring the Scirocco to the US already? So I can buy one? Thanks.

Can't understand all the hype about these cars: small, ugly and VW. What can be worse..
