Arden takes the Jaguar XKR Convertible into Supercar Territory
Few things in life are better than a Jaguar XKR Convertible, But Arden is unconvinced. The German tuning house has a history of taking Britain's best and making them better, and now they've turned their attention on the latest leaping cat.
Fitting a new exhaust system, Arden managed to squeeze and extra 30 horses out of the XKR's 5.0-liter supercharged V8 to top 540 horsepower and 498 lb-ft of torque. That's supercar territory, and Arden claims that with the speed limiter removed, its tuned roadster will top out at a follicle-stimulating 200 miles per hour. To round out the package, Arden also fitted a revised front end with optimized intakes and chrome grilles, plus a new diffuser housing the quad exhaust tips. Although the final details have yet to be announced, expect an adjustable lowered suspension and upgraded brakes to be hidden behind those giant 21-inch Sportline rims, along with a host of interior enhancements to further set it apart from the average house cat.

If you look at the performance figures one would say so, yes.

so 200mph and 540hp is a supercar huh? i guess if the new 911 Turbo had 40 more HP and a few more mph, it would be a supercar?
survey says: no

I can think of quite a few things better than a Jag XKR

From 510 to 540 hp takes it into super car territory. That's interesting, not long ago, the M6 at 500hp was considered part of this class. Not any more.

I know we're in America and all and find pride in the delusion that things like the Corvette are supercars, but really? Let's step back and reevaluate our abuse of the English language. You can't make a regular car a supercar. You can make one perform like one, fine. Doesn't make it super. The divide between "luxury cars/sports cars" and "supercars/hypercars" is wide. There are some intrinsic qualities cars need to be classified as super. There is a certain cachet that needs to be met. It needs to be rare, it needs to be thoroughbred, it needs to incite an emotion that only a supercar can.
Please, let's band together and protect the reverence that should be reserved only for the cars that are truly super.

Or as Richard Hammond puts it, "the whole point of a supercar is to feel like a 12 year old boy again"

Wow, you guys really seem to hate this car.
Has anyone driven a aluminum XK or XKR yet? If the DBS is a supercar (beautiful amazing car) why isn't a XKR. I've sat in both and with the new upgraded interiors Jag is using for the XK's it is just as nice and in some cases nicer on the inside. (didn't drive a DBS but the XKR's ride is much smoother than a Vantage, which I have driven)
The old 420hp XKR (with only one wheel putting power down) was recorded in 3 mag's doing between 4.2 sec and 4.3 sec from 0-60mph (the same as a DBS). The 2010 XKR's have 90hp more, gobs more torque and a computer controled active diff. It should easily be beating that number when the independant mag's get their hands on one. Take off the limiters and a stock 2010 XKR should hit 200mph with no problem.
A stock car that performs like that with a incredible interior that can hang on a race track:see link on old 420hp XKR http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9QTNe8X3Z4
and yet not beat you up on bad roads, with Aston's former styling director as a designer...
What's not super about that?
