VIDEO: Fifth Gear exercises the outlandish Tramontana R Edition

You've seen the Tramontana before, and now, you can see it in motion. This Spanish made beast sports a 100% carbon fiber chassis, a twin-turbocharged AMG 5.5-liter V12 that makes 720 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque, it weighs 2,500 pounds and looks like an F1 car designed for Robotech. 0-60 happens before you get in the car and top speed is orbit. Probably. Not only are Tramontana's more expensive than you could possibly imagine, but each one is designed around the owner. Plus, your passenger sits behind you. We like that. But possibly the craziest thing about the R Edition is a certain button on the dashboard. See, in "regular" grocery shopping mode, the big Mercedes motor spits out "just" 550 hp. Luckily there's a button labeled "720 HP" on the dash. Wish our car had that. Check the video of Tom from Fifth Gear driving it after you jump.

I agree. I can't really put my finger on why though... something about the people on it just piss me of (with the exception of tiff needle). It just feels like they are trying to be Top Gear... posers

Wow seriously?
I love Fifth Gear, especially with Tiff's commentating while driving.
I love Top Gear also because it's fun.

5th Gear is Automotive Journalism at it's best.
Top Gear is Automotive Entertainment at it's best.

I think fifth gear's perfectly fine.
Top Gear is more fun of course, but Fifth Gear's just another good motoring show to try to satiate my insatiable addiction to automobiles.
More shows = more cars plain and simple...even if it is a dubbed version of Top Gear Russia lol

I like both Fifth Gear and Top Gear.
Why wouldn't anyone like them both?
If you are a true car guy you have not one but two shows that showcase and test great cars.
It is like someone offering you lobster and then telling you that you can also have crab.
Are you going to really turn down having crab also?
Naturally Top Gear is better.

I agree. I can't stand watching it, the presenters just annoy the hell out of me. I was hoping for engine sounds in this clip, but they disappointed there, too. Worst of all, the whole look of the video just seemed like a rip-off of Top Gear. I don't know if everything they do copies Top Gear but I don't care enough to find out.

Why show a video of a car like that and not show the car being flogged? WTF Fifth Gear. There was more talk of grocery hauling than launch control or braking distance. WTF

sooo you missed the whole part about the company not really even wanting to let him drive it due to the weather right?
jake 9:21PM (7/28/2009)
What was he going to do anyways, flog it on city roads? He was in normal traffic driving a super car. Lame! Take it to a track or something where it can be driven like the car it is, not a grocery getter.

This or the Caparo T1 would be very interesting. Both ugly, both very fast.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm waiting for a match-up against the two...but I'm sure they'll pit this against a Veyron first (as is the standard nowadays).

That thing is hideous. Do want, though.

Yah, I'm not even sure if Its functionally attractive. It might go like stink but I'd definitely insist on driving it on an urban camo track.

5th Gear seems to have been taken by the short ones by the maker, judging by the fact there wasn't a single hoon-worthy scene in that review
