Jeremy Clarkson's salary reportedly "slashed" by BBC
According to the UK's Daily Mail, Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson makes an estimated £2,000,000 per year (about $2.9M U.S.D.). According to the financial realities of a disintegrating global economy. If reports are correct, Clarkson stands to lose up to £500,000 (about $720,000 USD) because of cost cutting by the BBC. While The Beeb is honoring all current contracts, the UK's public broadcaster – and the world's largest – is looking to save £20 million ($29M) by putting salaries on a diet. Anyone making more than £100,000 per year ($144k) will get a 25% pay cut when their contract is renewed. However, if tales of Jeremy's profit sharing are true, he won't be missing that chunk of change for too long...

He's making too much money? Please.
He would make 4x that in the US.

Not if he worked at PBS, the US equivalent to the BBC.
why not the LS2LS7? 6:18PM (2/03/2009)
Really? For 16 hours a year?
I believe you are mistaken.

So that's why he sold his Lamborghini.

No. He sold it because Kristen Scott Thomas didn't like it. And it was too shouty.

I believe he still has his Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder but sold his Ford GT.

He sold the Gallardo and replaced it with a CLK63 AMG Black.
"Recently I drove my Lamborghini from Guildford to Chipping Norton. It’s about 90 miles and I had my picture taken 107 times. I counted. This meant I couldn’t use the phone or pick my nose or break the speed limit or sing along to the radio or even, on the straight bits, catch forty winks. It was so wearisome that when I got home I sold the car. "

"I’m a sucker for pillarless doors. One of the reasons I like the Subaru Outback so much is that the windows are frameless. In fact when I look back at all the cars I’ve owned over the years, it’s a common thread. The CLK Black I have now, the BMW CSL, the Honda CRX, the Ferrari 355, the Gallardo. Some people buy cars for speed; some for practicality or value. It seems I buy on the strength of a frameless window in a pillarless door."

Profit sharing from what revenue? There are no ad dollars tied to his show...

The BBC sells its programmes around the world, and everybody owning a TV in Britain has to pay a licence fee, at present £139.50 a year: say $150. This charge is strongly policed and the fines are large.

Profits from all the DVDs he churns out.

Outside snowy england it runs with commercials. In the US they're mainly for Bosley hair plugs (It's your real hair! You can swim with it!) and hoverbout spazz chariots for seniors.

I'll have you know that in England they have their own currency. Not dullards and saints.

I don't care how much you make a 25% pay cut WILL hurt you.

Seriously.
Oh and nice avatar. Hard to see, but I'm guessing Gilles Villeneuve?

That's just his BBC salary. Then he's got few more sterlings from The Sunday Times, he's got two pages in the Driving section and a column in the main section of the paper. He also writes a column for The Sun (The Sun and The Times have the same publisher).
From time to time he also appears in commercials (British Telecom). Then there are his books, these also generate revenue... And events such as switching on lights at the seaside are not done for charity either....
That BBC's cut means he'd have to postopone getting a new supercar by a few weeks, but that's about it. Or maybe Clarkson's au-pair would be driving the old Focus for one more year.

I don't think his wife Frances would like being called an Au Pair!
Beside she has a BMW Z1 and Z4, along with V8 Vantage and a Caterham R500, not mentioning the family car that is a Volvo XC90.
Though she still does have the focus...

Jeremy,
Come to the States and head up Top Gear USA!. You will make twice as much and be an even bigger celeb. Endorsements, hot models, come on over...please.
Just look at Simon Cowel he is doing much better since he ported his show to the states. No pay cuts in market driven broadcasting unless you suck. A show as popular as Top Gear would never be slashing pay if not produced by taxpayers.

Oh yeah, he'd LOVE it here.
Probably find him dangling from the rafters of the Top Gear US's studio before the first show would even air.
Mazda FTW! 3:19PM (2/03/2009)
Yeah. Moving to the States for him would be like Family Guy to stop doing random flashbacks - you just blew ur shtick.
