Renault engineer commits suicide at factory
Employees and management at Renault were shocked and saddened to discover the body of William Millar dead last week at the company's racing headquarters in Enstone with a mortal bullet wound to the head. The 53-year-old R&D engineer had been with the team for 27 years, remaining at his post as the team changed ownership and name from Toleman to Bennetton and then Renault. Sources suggest that Millar had shot himself in the head with a firearm, and police are not treating the incident with suspicion. Our condolences to the colleagues, friends and family of the departed.

Wow this is truly sad. Wish someone would have seen this early on and talked to the poor man. I pray that he found his peace.

Couldn't have said it any better. Respect.

I desperately wish someone had reached out to him before he did this. But let's be honest, there is no peace in suicide. And anyone out there thinking about or beginning to feel like suicide is the way out should know that it's no solution for any problem. Even when it feels like you've hit a permanent roadblock, it's important to look beyond your perspective and at the big picture: Things can get better, things can change. Problems come and go. If it seems like problems are here to stay, it's never too late to start over or leave to start over.

If the stress is getting to this point one needs to truly seek help/counsel from friends, family, or a professional of some sort. My sincere condolences to this man's family.

I suppose, then, that we should all just say nothing -- right? After all, let's not pretend to give a crap about someone we don't know -- better to leave that to those who actually knew the guy, as people should only care about their friends, acquaintances and family.
I actually thought about this the other day when we discussed the death of that Ford assembly line employee. Yes, the Web condolences can seem superficial, but they also reflect readers' genuine desire to reach out and be sympathetic. I'll always take the former if it means the latter.

Brent, that was a very polite, well-reasoned response. I was thinking more along the lines of:
@ BlackCanary: Don't be a dick.

They are all better than your sentiments. Oh wait, you just took the time to complain about others while adding nothing useful yourself.
I'm praying for this man's family.

You spelled 'cue' wrong ya c*nt.
xplode 11:26AM (8/06/2008)
actually, you both spelled queue wrong... although i might have missed the sarcasm of the last message, the expletive was so loud.
xpolarx 4:49PM (8/07/2008)
@ xplode:
Actually, 'cue' is correct. A 'queue' is a line of people in Great Britain. As for 'que'...that's not a word in the English language. The volume of the expletive probably cause some short term alexia...no worries.

Do you really think mentioning the name is necessary or appropriate?

"Que" in the incorrect spellings of queue.

that would be 'cue' not 'queue' but anyways...

Wow, more sad news. Poor guy. He must've been going through some serious problems to take his own life.

I wonder how was he able to sneak a gun into the facilities. I would have thought that a Formula 1 facility would have metal detectors and such considering how secretive the world of F1 manufacturing is.
