Infiniti has announced pricing for its 2009 FX35 and FX50, and if you're jonesing for some of that "bionic cheetah" styling, the base price for the FX35 RWD with the venerable 3.5L VQ V6 producing 303 horsepower is $40,950. If you'd prefer a CUV that can rotate all four wheels at once, the FX35 AWD jumps up to $42,350. Finally, the bid dog of the bunch, the FX50 AWD with its 390-hp 5.0L V8, starts at a heady $56,700. All FX models get a seven-speed automatic with magnesium paddle shifters for do-it-yourself shifting, as well. These prices don't include destination and handling charges, which haven't been set yet but were $815 for the current-gen FX. And the pricing doesn't stop there, as each model has a few option packages that may boost the price even further. The FX35 is available with a Premium Package ($2,350), Navigation Package ($2,850) that includes the trick Around View Monitor, Deluxe Touring Package ($2,650), Technology Package ($2,900) and a DVD player for $1,600. the FX50, meanwhile, can also be had with a Technology Package ($2,900), as well as a Sport Package ($3,000), the DVD player and 21-inch summer tires for no extra charge.
Infiniti does note that these prices are well above the current-gen FX models. The FX35 RWD and AWD are $2,900 and $2,800 more, respectively, and the FX50 is a whopping $6,600 more than the current model. Infiniti credits the upgraded 3.5L V6, new seven-speed automatic, brand-new 5.0L V8, a standard nav system and Around View Monitor in the FX50 and over 200% more hand-stained maple trim than before for the price increases. If we say we're cool with plastic trim instead of wood, can we get a discount? Follow the jump for more details including the contents of each option package.

If I wanted something that looks like the talking hat from Harry Potter, I'd get the talking hat from Harry Potter for 20 bucks.

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...
The EVAR freeeeeeeeeee-falling US$ is the MAIN culprit for the huge price increases!

Prices in the Netherlands EUROPE:
De FX is leverbaar als FX 37 (vanaf ongeveer 71.500 euro) en de FX 50 (vanaf ongeveer 119.000 euro).
THAT IS ABOUT $ 184.450 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this going to be representative of the new G37 Sedan prices then, $3000 higher? They're moving that to the 7 speed as well.
That is what I am wondering.

Completely pointless vehicle that was selling poorly before gas went to $4/gallon. If you really want one of these, wait 9 months -- Infiniti will be putting a lot of money on the hood with subsidized lease rates to move them.

Completely agree. Infiniti will be begging people to take these off their hands come the end of the year. While the new FX35 supposedly rides better; haven't tried it but the old one was loud and rough; the gas mileage just plain sucks for such a small suv/cuv
dpb! 11:55AM (6/06/2008)
But if you can drop $56k on a car before options, I doubt $5/gal gas is an issue.

For the nth time, the market for $60,000 (sorry, $56,700), luxury toys with $1200 monthly payments really doesn't have to watch the price of gas.
Oh noes, an extra $100 a month to Exxon, time to cross shop a Civic....

This car has been marketed at urban hipster DINKs. While those people can still afford to drive a gas hog (provided the adjustable rate mortgage on their condo hasn't reset), it is no longer cool among hipsters to be driving a gas hog. The folks in that market are buying a Toyota Prius or Mini.

What are the torque numbers? I could care less about 390hp if has no torque to get to that horsepower.

Wikipedia says it's ~370 lb-ft -
Also, I think that if you really need to wonder if a 5 liter Nissan V8 with 390 horsepower puts out enough torque, that you really haven't used a machine with that kind of power.
I generally assume that 5liter engines putting out near 400hp will have decent torque numbers.
MikeW 10:17PM (6/06/2008)
Who cares about torque when you have 7 gears?
But is has torque, comparable to the old M5 V8 (394hp@6600, 369ft-lbs@3800)

not really for example the new M3 414-hp (295 lbs of torque) and it has a V8!

The EX seems alot bigger and was very impressed in a test drive, and its cheaper, starting at 35k so i bet the new FX is gonna fail with the EX cannibalizing its sales bigtime.. plus the EX = sexy, FX = dorky now !

Yep, I'm feeling good about my EX purchase now that I know how much this thing will be. I just couldn't stomach the old FX because it was lacking in the tech department. I still envy the 7 spd auto in the new FX though. If they mated that to the EX I could probably get in the mid 20s on MPG.
And to the other idiots. Gas prices DO matter, even if you can pay cash for your Infiniti.
Noidor 12:29PM (6/06/2008)
Never mind the fact that Infiniti has better quality interiors in Euro-spec versions, better handling too. So knowing this why would anyone throw $56k on FX, or any amount on any Infiniti model? It is such an insult, surreal! Equivalent of Mercedes putting on steering racks on Euro models with more feel to them.

One expensive gas-guzzler.
Bonus points for unique styling though.
