While we weren't equipped with the means to record our time on the track with the Nissan GT-R, our friend Ty from Exhaustnote.com had the foresight to bring along a couple of video cameras to Reno/Fernley to show how Godzilla tackles the twisties. We've posted two videos: the first is a few hot laps with Mr. R. behind the wheel and the second is a great five-minute clip inside the car with Steve Millen giving the blow-by-blow on how the GT-R handles the rigors of track duty. Check them both after the jump.

Ok, I _really_ want a GT-R now.
Fletcher @ Apr 5th 2008 8:05PM
I realize this car is the second coming of Jesus Christ, but I am so over this car. Though I give them props for getting the power to the ground and it has def changed the game but enough is enough
Seanross @ Apr 5th 2008 8:36PM
What do you mean enough is enough? Please don't say coverage of the car, because you clearly had to click through to comment. You could have easily skipped past it on this site or any site.
John R @ Apr 5th 2008 9:54PM
Really, you don't what to read about it? Scroll down.
Anyway, knowing how well this car performs, Honda and Toyota better come correct if they plan to charge over $100k for the new "NSX" and LF-A.

what could possibly make bigger auto news for die hard enthusiasts than a car at that price that would destroy porsches and cars costing more than twice the money.
i personally cant get enough. i cant wait to drive it (on gt5 lol).
Cary @ Apr 6th 2008 12:31AM
I don't know so much about "destroy" them. Oh, and twice the cost? Wrong again. Noob. 3 seconds isn't such much of a destroying. 3 seconds may be a lifetime between the GT-R and the 911 Turbo. But, that test isn't necessarily an accurate representation of each car's abilities. The real test should be between the test drivers of the vehicle manufacturer's themselves on the Nürburgring. Then I will take the results seriously. Until then, the GT-R is a brilliant motor and drivetrain. It's like comparing the M3 to the STi. M3 cost quite a bit more and is slower around the track, but faster 0-62, and has a much more driver oriented interior. It's been said thousands of times over already, but APPLES V. ORANGES. Fck, I'm over it.
e90+335i @ Apr 6th 2008 2:15PM
the first NSX was slower than the r32 GT-R
but it was still much more expensive
what makes you think the nsx-replacement has to be cheaper than the r35?
John R @ Apr 6th 2008 2:21PM
^^ I guess you were refering to me.
I never said it had to be cheaper. What I tried to convey was it had better perform at least as well for such a hefty MSRP. Part of the demise of the first NSX and by extension the Supra turbo, RX-7 and 300ZXTT was the fact they became too expensive.
RSly @ Apr 6th 2008 5:40PM
@ Cary
They did test them on Nurburgring. Both times the cars were driven by the manufacturers. And the GT-R was faster than the 911.
Ken @ Apr 5th 2008 8:29PM
I would come out and watch, but I have to work :-(
All I see there is Miata's
Ted @ Apr 5th 2008 8:46PM
OK, this car gets a lot of press, but I never tire of it.
I wonder if/when dealers will actually let anyone test drive one.
zamafir @ Apr 6th 2008 2:31AM
never.
go try to test drive an R8. cars like this come in for PDI and are subsequently and immediately delivered to their new owners, they never sit on the showroom floor.
Stuka @ Apr 5th 2008 8:53PM
Too much press? Give me a break. This is one of the first real drives of the USD GT-R.
Really makes me wish I made about 10x more a year than I do now :P
Yar @ Apr 5th 2008 10:49PM
Awesome. Now drive it back to your Nissan dealer for the $1000 post-race inspection so you don't void your warranty.
Piecemakr @ Apr 6th 2008 3:00AM
Think thats only in Japan.
Dan @ Apr 6th 2008 12:04AM
Sounds awesome in the second video
Chris @ Apr 6th 2008 12:14AM
This car is insane. I'm really starting to feel better about this car now that its becoming well known that it has WAY more than 480hp. My intelligence was insulted in the beginning when I saw the numbers.
Keep the coverage coming!
Now if only Vulcan Motors can add one of these to its fleet............
chris @ Apr 6th 2008 1:19AM
Cary, the test I believe you are referring to was about 5.5 seconds between the Turbo and GT-R. That is quite a destroying. Or if you're referring to the Nurburgring times, the GT-R's time was done by a Nissan test driver, the Turbo's best time was done by a guy who's done about a bazillion laps of the 'Ring. That's reasonably fair I'd say, perhaps even with the Turbo having an advantage since the GT-R driver has only done around 500 laps compared to the likely thousands of laps done by the German dude who's name I've forgotten, many of those laps behind the wheel of a 911.
And yes, STi and M3 is apples and oranges. GT-R and 911 Turbo however are about the closest rivals either car can possibly have apart from maybe 911 Turbo vs GT3.
The GT-R has been faster than the 911 Turbo in every single test done with the cars. The Nissan is obviously faster, just accept it.
Brad @ Apr 6th 2008 12:43AM
So is that the turbos making that awful wind-like sound in the first video?
Carlos @ Apr 6th 2008 12:58AM
Holy cow I thought I was the only one who was annoyed by that noise. I love the way turbos sound, but damn that wasn't pretty.
