Rendered Ruminations: Porsche Traveller Concept slaps Stuttgart in the face

There's probably a few clunkers in DaVinci's sketchbook, too. Looking more gnarled than Van Gogh's
Potato Eaters hand studies, Ivan Volkov's Porsche Traveller concept picks up design ideas from the
Matchbox Fandango, though it doesn't look like the spare wheel on the Traveller incorporates Rolamatic action. Rather than heap massive derision on Volkov's renderings, it would be interesting to get a deeper explanation of the design goals and features incorporated in this car. The SUV/CUV appears to have a pickup-like division between the front and rear body sections, and one thing's for sure, it's got absolutely no chance of seeing production without much further refinement. We'll grant that the Cayenne isn't the most classically handsome conveyance to roll out of Zuffenhausen, but Volkov's Traveller is exponentially more polarizing.

That looks like something fisher-price would make for a 3 year old.
That has to be one of the worst renderings ever made.
How dare someone use the Porsche name on something like that.
3seriesisking @ Mar 15th 2008 5:44PM
I had to slap myself in the face after looking at it.....hahahaha.

I believe that we is on the same page. This indeed look like somthing that fisher price or playskool would make for 3 yr old children. I cant belive that porshce would even spend money on this. its ugly, tacky and just whoa. There may even be people out there that would buy it just becaseu its a porshce. whoa
Pam @ Mar 17th 2008 10:52PM
Maybe that's what it really is - a secret collaboration between Fisher Price and Porsche?
nate_687 @ Mar 15th 2008 5:18PM
Might I also add, upon looking at it again. It looks just like a cross between a Hippopotamus and a Shoe.

Whoever penned it has no artistic sense at all. Nothing looks right on that concept...not a single redeeming quality.
Scorch @ Mar 17th 2008 9:30AM
They must have hired someone out of Citroen's design department.
Torrent @ Mar 15th 2008 5:33PM

I'm not gonna lie to you, I kinda dig it! Or at least I dig the idea.... of the idea. Does that make sense? I guess I'm trying to say that I can see where he was going. He got off course a fair bit there, but frankly, I like the fact that it doesn't look like every other concept car/cuv out there. He just went to the extreme. That's what you gotta do. You gotta test the designs boundaries, do I wanna go all the way over to this extreme, or do I want to go all the way over here? Usually, the answer's in the middle. So yea, I support many of the design elements, I just think that it needs some refinement.
