956,000 matchsticks + too much time = obessive F1 fan
We all have different ways that we spend our time and money, but probably nothing quite like how Michael Arndt spent 6000 Euros and six years. The matchstick master built a full scale Mercedes-McLaren F1 car in his kitchen using 956,000 matchsticks and 1686 tubes of glue. The car can even be taken apart for easy transportation, which is good since at some point Arndt might want to leave his parent's house. Check out the gallery below to see the incredible detail and some of the building process.

A static spark could possibly do some major damage there.

now, please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a sneaking suspicion there ARE better ways of spending six years of ones life.....

That's one thing to do with all your matches when you quit smoking ;-)
Seriously ... this is pretty impressive. Much more than all those Lego creations ...

So, I guess this is not a hobby interest for someone diagnosed with A.D.D.
Mr. Arndt is a splendid artist!

1. I'm glad he got rid of the mustache.
2. Impressive job, he should have gotten the matches and glue for free for the publicity (can you imagine the fumes in that place?)
3. I want to see the 956,000 match heads he cut off light up in a fantastic *FWOOOOSH!!!*

If he'd used a Ferrari he could fittingly paint it Marlboro colors. Actually, I'm pretty sure I saw some Ferrari matchsticks in there. Hopefully F1 doesn't get wind of it.

The "West" branding seen on McLarens until 2005 is a tobacco company as well...so it's really just as applicable.
The same could actually be said for a lot of teams around the time frame (1999, based on the diecast). Williams, Benetton, Jordan, Prost, and BAR were all tobacco sponsored, as were the aforementioned McLaren and Ferrari teams.
