Click image for more brochure photosNASIOC has long been a bonanza of leaked photos and info relatingng to all things Subaru, and today, user "fyinpig" keeps that tradition going with brochure shots of the JDM Subaru Impreza WRX STI ahead of the car's official debut later this month. As you can see, the muscled-up hatch will be available in 7 colors in Japan ("obshidian" black pearl,, anyone?), with three different wheel styles. Inside, there's no shortage of STI logos, so your passengers won't confuse your machine with the standard WRX. Key numbers you'll undoubtedly be interested in include:
- 304 hp @ 6400 rpm
- 311lb-ft @ 4400rpm (41:59 torque split)
- Weight: 3263 lb (subtract an additional 22 lbs. if fitted with optional BBS wheels)
Head over to the
NASIOC thread for all the info and an ongoing discussion.

Sounds like a 13.5 second car, stock, to me.
naggs @ Oct 7th 2007 3:50PM
the jdm gets the 2 liter
we get the much better 2.5, should be flatter torque and less lag.
how does the curb weight compare to the previous gen jdm sti?
shadysi @ Oct 7th 2007 4:42PM
looks great! I cannot wait until they come to the US. This may be my present to myself.

It looks like a Kia spectra and a Mazda 3 wagon bumped uglies and this abomination is their spawn. I think it would look much better as a three door hatch like the old VW Corrado.
I don't know why Subaru and Mitsu refuse to use their excellent EVO and STi platforms in cars that actually look like sports cars. Why not make a 2 door sports coupe based on the existing platform? Granted sports cars don't sell in huge numbers but the Evo and Sti are limited production models anyway and spreading the platform over more models would save money on R&D.
Many enthusiasts will purchase these hopped up wagons/sedans based soley on performance, but there is a much larger audience who likes a little bit of style on top of that go fast goodness. We don't want or need two extra doors and back seats. Just bring back the SVX and the 3000 GT VR4 to compliment the sedan/hatch offerings of the WRX and EVO. Use the same underpinnings and wrap them in a sleeker 2 door sports car body.
Until then I'll just hold on to my VR-4...

They did have that eclipse concept that had awd and speed but I don't know what happened to that.

I would settle for Prodrive bringing a toned-down version of the P2 in your post icon to market.
sl8anic @ Oct 7th 2007 7:20PM
Amen to that brother!

+1
Richard @ Oct 7th 2007 7:33PM
yeah!
But the P2 would cost $100k

It's "obshidian" because in Japanese, "si" is an alternate method of writing "shi"; in speech, the sound "si" does not exist.
I'm disappointed, though, that they've decreased the rear torque bias. Isn't the current one 35:65?
Za @ Oct 8th 2007 1:01AM
Hehe...obshidian...
Sorry. For what it's worth, I saw a stock WRX in black today and it's not a bad looking car. However, I hate the overhangs because the thing looks way too long to be an Impreza.
portago @ Oct 8th 2007 2:20AM
Apparently "obshidian" should be "obSIdian". Typical typo by we Japanese. It's funny if it stands for fake pearl;-)
Many of you may wonder why so many words required for these colors here. Yeah, each copyright is VERY nonsense, just like every Japanese cars with nonsense details such as badges. We Japanese are not good at leaving someone alone to make a decision, but to add compliments;-)

I test-drove the 2.0 litre 165 horsepower a couple of weeks ago, and although not up there with the STI version, it was still a hoot to drive.
Though, it's expensive here in Macedonia. Otherwise, I'd actually consider it.
gdmmjr @ Oct 8th 2007 9:47AM
I have a 2008 Legacy but wow I think i am the only one that likes the new STI..... with those quad pipes i think its a preety sweet looking ride
ryan @ Oct 8th 2007 10:03AM
is it still twin turbos on that 2 litre?
stefan @ Oct 8th 2007 10:55AM
No the last twin turbo was the legacy GTB, now all subaru use single twin scroll turbo's.
Robert Aitchison @ Oct 8th 2007 11:13AM
Man o man this car calls to me. I almost bought a WRX wagon in 04 but didn't because there "just barely" was too little legroom (my shin rubbed against the dash when I worked the clutch).
I almost hope the new STi has the same problem or I'm going to have a hard time not buying it for my next car and I really don't need 300Hp and the relatively poor gas mileage (if it's similar to the current STi)
speedball3 @ Oct 8th 2007 11:49AM
The STI finally comes in Red! Not that I'd get that color if I were buying one, but with such a hot car, I was surprised that it never came in red. The only red STI I've seen is some special tuner STI with dual white stripes, and it looked SWEET. I too don't really need 300hp or bad mileage...but it sounds really fun!

Anyone else notice how this thing looks EXACTLY like a Focus ST (except the front of the focus is more aggressive)
http://www.furrows.co.uk/Newcars_html/focus_start.php
Not that I mind, I freakin love the looks of the Focus ST.
I might upgrade to this as the "family" car
