How to tell when your community has too much tax revenue

Click the Caddy to enlarge
With the lousy economy in Michigan, most towns and cities have been struggling with shrinking revenues from state and local property taxes. All over the state, public employees have been getting laid off. There are, of course exceptions, with Bloomfield Hills north of Detroit being one of them. How many cops have you seen cruising around your neighborhood in $100,000 Cadillac XLR-Vs?

Wow, if that isn't the car of a cop with a trust fund, I'd be marching down to city hall with a pitch fork and mob in tow.

Ummm, I call bullshit. This is either a Photoshop or a promotional ride.
Why does the front fender say 411 on it? In case of emergency, call INFORMATION?!
Bo 3:22PM (8/18/2007)
I think the 411 is the unit number. If you look at the back quarter panel it say " 911"
Esemtee 2:58PM (8/17/2007)
Um......I believe that is the squad number for the vehicle. The rear fender does have 911 on it.

is it me or is the police on the front bumper upside down?

Are we sure that it isn't a seized car? A lot of counties have taken to throwing police badging on cars seized from former drug dealers...especially if the cars are tough and/or fast...or just cool.

So, how do you put the drunks in the back?

HA right! and my question is how to you put the top down with the lights up there?
Not sure that I agree with this as a police car..but my question would be, how do they determine the Lucky SOB who gets to drive this thing as their daily "cruiser"?
BartMack 2:08PM (8/17/2007)
If that's a police cruiser then clearly they just call for a limo when it's time to make an arrest lol..

The vast majority of these cars are temporarily donated by the automakers to the communities.
About two years back, I saw a batch of new Jeep Wranglers and Libertys adorned with community police logos three weeks before the cruise.
Sure enough, on the day (OK, more like week) of, there they were, out flashing strobes and helping ticket those who chirped any amount of rubber.
It seems to be the case this year, too. In addition to your XLR-V find, I've also seen at least three H2 SUT's running around with police insignia.

I have to agree with etmc. Probably a Woodward show pony that will go "home" after the cruise.
J.Crew 12:49PM (8/17/2007)
Now that makes sense...and fun for both the Police and Dream Cruisers...
dondonel 12:52PM (8/17/2007)
Yes, exactly, I saw the same thing last year in August. It's just for fun during the Woodward cruise. On the other hand, Bloomfield Hills is not exactly one of those places where you go to observe how (badly) Michigan economy does at this time.

I concur, this isn't anything new...
Purdue University had a Pontiac
Firebird donated from a local car dealership for an alcohol awareness program. (http://www.purdue.edu/police/programs/types/asap.htm)

I have to agree, the manufacturers most likely lent this car out in order to promote it, as well as establish better community relations. It could have also been a confiscated car, drug forfeiture car, put into use as a public outreach program such as D.A.R.E.

I'm surprised it didn't take longer for someone to call Sam out for not really researching his post correctly.
J.Crew 12:30PM (8/17/2007)
That is pretty disgusting.

This was probably a car that was confiscated from a drug dealer...

That MUST be a drug repo car.....
