Jaguar offering factory pimpage for new XK

Buyers of the latest Jaguar XK are now able to dress it up a little thanks to a factory Exterior Styling Pack. It consists of a ground effects package that gives the new cat a lowered appearance, plus new mesh grillework in either silver or black. The new rear valance features integrated exhaust outlets and a set of new chrome tips that fit the cutouts precisely; this is the most interesting part of the set. Overall, it's not bad, but the new XK's shape strikes us as one that needn't be unnecessarily augmented by bolt-ons -- factory-provided or otherwise.

PRESS RELEASE:
EXTERIOR STYLING PACK FOR THE XK
XK buyers wanting a more distinctive yet elegant exterior appearance for their XK can now choose to specify Jaguar's exclusive range of body exterior styling products, known as the 'Exterior Styling Pack', which makes its debut early 2007.
With body styling packages already available on the X-TYPE and S-TYPE, this new addition to the range provides a stylish differentiation for the XK and adds yet another exciting dimension to Jaguar's selection of body accessories.
Reflecting the dynamic qualities the XK offers, the Exterior Styling Pack gives the car a more bold and distinct appearance. Designed to reflect and accentuate the dynamic qualities and sleek, strong profile that the XK offers, the Exterior Styling Pack uses the car's existing flowing lines to project its athleticism and performance. This ultimately makes a dramatic but subtle impression on both passengers and passers-by.
The new XK Exterior Styling Pack consists of a front valance, rear valance, upper and lower mesh grilles in a choice of bright or black finish, sill appliqués as well as new exhaust tailpipe finishers, giving the vehicle an aura of self-confidence.
As with all of the body styling packages, engineering integrity has been maintained and the components have been developed for ease of installation onto vehicles and all parts utilise current fixings. The Exterior Styling Pack comes as primed therefore supporting fitment to all vehicle colours.
Jaguar Design Director, Ian Callum said: "We have designed a range of accessory products to visually emphasise the stance and presence of the XK. The enhancements we have made for the XK Exterior Styling Pack give the car an even more stylish and purposeful look by deliberately lowering the visual stance of the car and creating exciting new elements that work with the elegant profile of XK."
Available from March 2007, the Exterior Styling Package can be retro-fitted to all non-supercharged new XKs from launch.

I love the marketing blather: "[The Styling Pack] ultimately makes a dramatic but subtle impression on passers-by."
Memo to Jaguar PR: this is what's known as a contradiction in terms.
Jaguar can't return to its original "Grace, Space, and Pace" manifesto soon enough. Their current image-above-all-else "Gorgeous" pitch is a sad dilution of the brand's traditional focus on dynamics.
It's starting to wear pretty thin, too, given that the latest XK and XJ look less distinct from their rivals than ever.

HEY ALEX -- radical idea!! Some of the spoiled rich crowd in towns where there are lots of expensive cars want their own ride to look unique! Who woulda thunk it, lol? Your or my taste has nothing to do with it.

Tnis is one bland, overhyped, dullard of a car.

I think it looks fine. It gives it an XKR kind of look. The Exhaust tips are classic- Good Looking, yet unique.(unless you park next to a 1960's mustang)

Dear Jag,
After wasting $750Mil of Ford's money last year, you'd think you would have the decency to go into a corner and die.
Thanks and keep your "dramatic but subtle" death to yourself,
Undercover

"Let's see. How can we make our Jaguar look more like an Aston Martin? I've got it! Side skirts and integrated exhaust pipes! Brilliant! Cheerio! Marvelous!"

Not that I care exactly how much these new-money add-ons weigh, but it seems as if the gain in weight probably moves to negate the whole point of building an aluminium (lighter) bodied car. Further waste of development cash.
