Danica Patrick signs with Andretti Green Racing for 2007 - no NASCAR
Despite reports that Danica Patrick's father/manager was in exploratory talks with various NASCAR teams to turn his daughter into a dedicated left-turner, word is coming out that the Queen of Open-Wheel Racing has signed with Andretti Green Racing for the 2007 season of the Indy Racing League. This means Danica will be leaving her current IRL team, Rahal Letterman, at the end of this season when her contract expires. Danica will join Tony Kannan and Marco Andretti on the Andretti Green Racing roster for 2007 and get another shot at reaching her goal of winning the Indianapolis 500.[Source: Fox Sports]

“Queen of open wheeled racing”
More like the princes of open wheeled racing until she wins a race. Liz Halliday is a real Queen of closed wheel racing with six wins, three this year. Too bad no one else knows who she is.
Does anyone remember Sara Fisher and know what she is doing now?

Yes!!! I did NOT want to dislike her. What a boring-ass redneck sport NASCAR is!
Good call Dani ! ; )

I wonder how much Honda and Tony George are paying Andretti to keep her in the series. It's all just marketing. I can't believe how much they talk about her when she's not really managed to do anything. The only reason why anyone cares is because she's a cute girl. In the little bit of IRL I've watched, they constantly give Danica updates no matter how poorly she's doing. But at least she's not a dangerous road block like Sara Fisher.

Great! Yes, stick to racing and leave the circus for the clowns! Look, she is decent among all the male racers. Give her some time and then we can make our final judgment.

Come on, she was never really serious about going to Nascar now. She wants to win the Indy 500.
She knows she can always go to Nascar later... when she's old, pudgy and with slower reflexes, like most of the Nascar drivers.

The Dallara chassis seems superior to the Panoz.. she'll probably do better in the Dallara.

There can be no doubt she has skill, no matter how you feel about he overexposure in the media. Nobody places fourth in the 500 without skills. With a team that has more speed than she had this year, she can win. Guthre and Fisher were not on the same level as Patrick is. They could run, but not with an expectation that they could win. Placing well, and not being resposible for destruction of other racers was the goal for these two. And, even this was not achieved. Not so for Patrick. She will win, it's only a matter of when. Many say women do not have the killer instinct behind the wheel that men have. She may prove some to be wrong. As far as her looks go, surely a bonus. She is very aware of her good looks, and makes full use of that advantage. In a competition you use what you have.

Nothing more than a back marker,MOST OVERRATED DRIVER EVER! Only she gets ink is because she a woman and everyone on this board knows it. She will be out of the sport in 2 years when she still hasn't won anything.

Just remember Sara Fisher was never in competitive equipment. IIRC, she had a Chevy engine that was WAY down on power(50-75 hp?) compared to the Toyota & Honda. To bad, but she has a lot of company there.
And yes, Danica has had more exposure than somebody without a win normally has, but she'll win soon. Racing is about speed and marketing, unfortunately. She has both. Backmarkers don't start & finish 4th at Indy, or sit on pole twice!

A lot of drivers never win, she just gets more attention because she is female and photogenic. I used to cheer for Martin Brundle every F1 race, and he ran a lot of them, but he never won. I felt really bad for him, but going up against Senna and the rest every week was quite a task.
Danica has some ability, but her weight advantage hasn't mattered, which is good.
Not many people seem to address the risks drivers face. Remember Paul Dana? Alex Zanardi (a very good and entertaining driver) is back racing, amazing. What will the reaction be when a woman is in one of those situations?
I'm not saying that Danica shouldn't race, or that women shouldn't because they might die, or have their legs amputated at 200 mph. But if this happens, what will the fallout be? This is an unanswered question, but it must be considered. It's a fact of life in racing, and the odds go up every day, as more women enter the sport. This is the serious, real-deal side of the sport. This is not golf, or tennis. All motorsport drivers are courageous, maybe beyond reason, but is the public ready for the possibility?
Real race fans understand the cruel side of the sport, but casual people, just in it for the "hear me roar" aspect, aren't ready for it all.

Until she does win, she will be the Anna Kournikova of racing - except Anna is hotter.

Nothing against Danica (honestly), but I am so tired so hearing everyone talk about her. I mean she is okay, but she's only average! She's nothing to call home about. Why all the press? Is it because she's female?
She even took some Maxim photo shots and I was still not that impressed. Please lets stop talking about her.

Robert,
D & R wanted to run Sarah Fisher on Ovals immediately (there must have been a Sponsor deal as D&R badly needs money to continue in the IRL). However Barnhardt's people that Sarah must resubmit herself for Rookie testing b4 racing and these tests weren't scheduled for some time. Pretty silly of the IRL since Sarah ran 36 races had a Pole and a 2nd place finish to her name.
Maybe they were concerned that she would be quicker than DP?
Meantime Sarah is trying to geta Regional Nascar ride.

more like the anna kournikova of motorsports. she's only popular because of her looks not for winning but for companies and sponsors its a great moneymaker.
