When Toyota chairman Eiji Toyoda, nephew of company founder Sakichi Toyoda, in 1983 set out to build the best car in the world, it created a new division to house the result: the LS400. It had a large and smooth V8; so smooth that the launch campaign showed a stack of champagne glasses sitting on top of a revving LS400. While other cars and SUVs have since joined the marque, the LS400 remains the template of sorts for what came after. Quality and quietness, and more recently the sportiness of the F Line of vehicles. The current flagship is the LC coupe, and it's joined in the lineup by vehicles such as the RX and NX crossovers and the ES and GS sedans, among others.
