Production of the ultra-powerful, ultra-fast SSC Ultimate Aero is coming to an end, and the boys over at SSC North America (formerly Shelby SuperCars) are sending it off in style. Dubbed "Ultimate Aero XT," this is the final production run of the one-time world-record-holding hypercar, only five will be built, and will feature many key elements from the forthcoming Tuatara hypercar from SSC.
The Dubai International Motor Show was a good one for Jerod Shelby and the SSC Tuatara. The event pulled in $13 million in pre-orders for heinously powerful supercar, far exceeding Shelby's expectations for a show that was merely supposed to show off where the Tuatara is headed. Shelby sat down with Studio One shortly after the show for a brief interview, and rather than focus on the newest creation from SSC, the show took a closer look at who Shelby is. So many independent supercar operations have disappeared as fast as they've sprung up. But Shelby SuperCars is out to make a name for itself. Not only did the upstart manage to challenge the likes of Koenigsegg and Bugatti for top-speed supremacy with its Ultimate Aero, but now it's coming back with its stunning new Tuatara.
Shelby SuperCars (SSC) first showed off its forthcoming supercar, the Tuatara, last month in Shanghai, and now we've gotten our first look at the car here in Monterey. The Tuatara (pronounced twu‐tar‐ah), was unveiled earlier today on the concept car lawn at Pebble Beach.
