What we know as the Toyota Prius C here in North America goes by Toyota Aqua in Japan. And, just as it did in 2011, the automaker has taken advantage of its home Tokyo Motor Show to show off a few variations of products that the Aqua could spawn.

July was a great month for the Toyota Prius lineup. Toyota Motor Sales, USA sold 23,294 Prius units in July 2013 versus 16,643 in July 2012 – a nearly 40-percent increase. In July 2013, the standard Prius Liftback sedan sold 15,252 units, the larger Prius V sold 3,428, the smaller Prius C sold 3,797 and the Prius Plug-in Hybrid moved 817 units.
No matter how you slice it, the Toyota Prius and the Smart ForTwo are two of the "cheapest" cars to own. The Automotive Science Group (ASG), in its first-ever survey measuring a car's economic, environmental and social costs, put both the Prius and the ForTwo atop two of its nine vehicle classes, marking the only repeat leaders among the approximately 1,400 model-year 2013 vehicles surveyed.
Toyota can continue to be loved by the treehugger set, while Ford is making an appearance as Public Enemy #1 when it comes to going easy on the environment, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) and its annual "greenest" and "meanest" list.

Those crusaders of shopping empowerment over at Consumer Reports have put together a list of five cars to avoid, even if their sales numbers suggest otherwise. CR points out that just because a vehicle is making a lot of buzz and ringing cash registers, that doesn't necessarily make it a wise choice for buyers. According to the report, these are vehicles that either tested poorly or have been experiencing poor reliability in their new car surveys.
