Toyota will recall some 192,000 vehicles in the United States to mitigate a fire risk related to hybrid power unit harnesses.

Toyota on Thursday said it was recalling a total of about 2.9 million vehicles globally in the latest campaign having to do with Takata airbag inflators. The affected cars are in Japan, China, Oceania and other regions, including its Corolla Axio sedan and RAV4 SUV crossover due to potentially faulty airbag inflators. This is the third time the company has recalled these cars for this problem.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed May 19, that 33.8 million vehicles with Takata airbags are to be recalled.

Toyota Motor Corp. is recalling nearly 1.8 million vehicles in the U.S. for various safety problems, including air bags that may fail to deploy.

In the past, if an automaker did something wrong, they were usually prosecuted by the US government through something called the TREAD Act. Short for Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act, it basically requires automakers to report recalls in other countries, along with any and all serious injuries or deaths, to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
