As we suspected recently when we heard that Proton would be showing a hybrid concept car next week at the Geneva Motor Show, the propulsion system has been developed by Lotus. Malaysian automaker Proton owns the British engineering consultancy and sports car builder.

Malaysian automaker Proton has released the first image of a new compact hybrid concept it will show off next month at the Geneva Motor Show. At this point, we don't have a name or any technical details, but the body was apparently designed by Italian studio Italdesign Giugiaro. Since Proton is the parent company of Lotus and has often used the British firm to help with its engineering, it's probably a safe bet that the concept will contain some Lotus-developed techno-bits.
