Tesla Motors today announced it has secured a deal to get lithium-ion cells from Japan's Panasonic for its upcoming Model S sedan, a move Tesla says will allow it to keep its sedan priced as promised.

Automotive supplier Bosch says it will build a pilot production line in Eisenach, Germany to develop and manufacture future generations of lithium-ion cells. Bosch says the line will produce samples for trial purposes in late 2012 and then expand until it can hit an annual production volume of more than 200,000 cells by 2015.

U.S.-based Lithium Technology Corporation has announced that it formed a strategic alliance with UK-based Frazer-Nash Research Ltd. Terms of the agreement call for Lithium Technology to supply lithium-ion battery packs to Frazer-Nash for use in automotive applications.
