Virtually anywhere in the U.S., a refreshing Coca-Cola beverage is not much more than a stone's throw away. It's available at the corner store, inside local gas stations, through vending machines and so on. Coca-Cola was introduced in 1886, and how it's delivered throughout North America has changed significantly since its debut.
Hino Motors, a company that produces everything from medium- and heavy-duty trucks, to buses and even Toyota-badged vehicles like the Land Cruiser Prado SUV, FJ Cruiser, Dyna trucks and the Toyoace commercial products, is developing a hybrid system for its light-duty lineup of trucks. The setup will be field tested in Japan to assess real-world reductions in fuel consumption prior to its planned commercial launch in 2011.
The Mercedes-Benz Atego BlueTec's innovative, fuel-saving hybrid drive system has earned it the 2010 German Sustainability Award. The BlueTec Hybrid model is based on the Euro 5-compliant Atego 1222 L, a vehicle that already meets the stringent EEV standards for emissions. A recent study conducted by Pike Research found that hybrid powertrains will find a home in some 300,000 medium- (MD) and heavy-duty (HD) trucks and buses by 2015. The study also finds that while North America currently leads the world in usage of hybrid trucks, Asia is expected to take the lead as early as next year and will probably never look back. London trucking got a bit greener today as Daimler AG has delivered ten Fuso Canter Eco Hybrids to various customers in the city. The 7.5-ton hybrid trucks are expected to save about 15-percent in both fuel and carbon emissions using a diesel engine and electric drivetrain. The eight customers were specifically chosen to study what the economic benefits of the fuel savings could be, since all the trucks will be used in slightly different roles. Daimler hopes that it will become apparent after th
UPS, a company which already has twenty-five hybrid diesel electric commercial vehicles in operation, is expanding its fleet of green vehicles by ordering an additional two-hundred hybrid electric vehicles and three-hundred compressed natural gas vehicles from Daimler's Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC). This order will more than double Daimler's active fleet of commercial hybrids, as the German company currently has over one-hundred-sixty in service. We wonder if the two-million mi
